Senior React Native / Expo Engineer

Mochi HealthSan Francisco, CA
$230,000 - $330,000Onsite

About The Position

Healthcare is broken at the first step: patients can't find the right care, understand what it costs, or access the medications they need. Mochi Health is fixing this. We're building an AI-driven marketplace that makes healthcare discoverable—connecting patients to the right providers, transparent pharmacy pricing, and affordable medications. Over the past few years, we've grown rapidly by combining clinical expertise with technology that actually works for real people, not just hospital systems. Our platform does what legacy healthcare can't: it gives patients transparent pricing before they pay, personalized medication management that follows them across providers, and long-term access to their own medical records. We're proving that healthcare can be more affordable, more human, and far more intuitive than what exists today. Join a team that's rebuilding healthcare from the patient up. At Mochi Health, you'll work alongside people who value bold thinking, inclusive collaboration, and getting meaningful work into the world. If you want to do the most impactful work of your career, this is where to do it.

Requirements

  • Operated high-stakes mobile systems.
  • 5-7+ years of frontend engineering experience, with deep, specialized focus on React Native and Expo.
  • Built, shipped, and maintained complex, data-heavy mobile applications in production.
  • Expertise in the modern Expo ecosystem, including managing EAS builds and integrating complex native modules (like HealthKit/Health Connect) without ejecting.
  • Understanding of strict iOS App Store and Google Play Store review guidelines.
  • Mastery of mobile state and performance, including understanding the React render cycle on mobile, preventing UI thread blocking, optimizing list rendering for massive messaging datasets, and orchestrating complex asynchronous data fetching securely.
  • Full lifecycle ownership experience, including managing CI/CD pipelines, monitoring crash rates (e.g., Sentry for mobile), and owning app reliability in the wild.
  • Experience using frontier agentic tools (e.g., Codex 5.3, Claude Opus 4.6) to build faster and ability to describe how these models have structurally changed coding workflows.
  • Low ego, high standards, and excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to thrive in cross-functional environments where engineering requirements are heavily shaped by healthcare regulations, compliance, and patient safety.
  • Excited to work in-person 5 days a week in the San Francisco office.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with native iOS (Swift/Objective-C) or Android (Kotlin/Java) for when native code is needed.
  • Demonstrated track record of setting technical direction across teams, navigating deep ambiguity, and measurably leveling up engineers (for Staff leveling).

Responsibilities

  • Architect the Mobile Clinical Experience: Build dynamic, high-performance mobile tools for patients and providers, architecting deep integrations with Apple HealthKit and Google Health Connect for real-time patient data ingestion and visualization, and building highly responsive, secure messaging systems.
  • Leverage the Expo Ecosystem: Treat mobile infrastructure as a product advantage, utilizing the full power of Expo to deliver a flawless, cross-platform experience, using EAS for build pipelines, configuring custom native modules via Config Plugins, and pushing seamless over-the-air (OTA) updates.
  • Design for the Edge: Architect robust, offline-first data synchronization strategies and implement aggressive local caching to ensure patients can always access their care plans, even with spotty cellular connections or offline states.
  • Champion the Mobile UX: Act as a mobile product specialist, obsessing over details that make an app feel premium and native, including frame rates, navigation stack transitions, keyboard avoidance behaviors, and accessibility standards.
  • Build Agentic Workflows: Utilize frontier agentic models to accelerate development and integrate AI capabilities directly into mobile interfaces to automate clinical operations and streamline patient support.
  • Raise the Engineering Bar: Own key mobile architectural decisions, establish patterns for strict code reuse between web and mobile clients, and elevate engineers through rigorous code review and mobile testing practices.
