About The Position

The Senior R&D Engineer leads early-stage research and technology development for cardiac rhythm management, designing and executing complex experiments involving biomaterials, biofabrication, and device–tissue or device–blood interactions. The role includes performing biological assays, developing prototypes and experimental models, and driving projects from concept through proof-of-concept while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams. The engineer also communicates findings through reports and presentations. We are working onsite a minimum of 4 days per week as part of our commitment to fostering a culture of professional growth and cross-functional collaboration as we work together to engineer the extraordinary. This role will require less than 10% of travel to enhance collaboration and ensure successful completion of projects.

Requirements

  • Baccalaureate degree in Biology, Biomedical Engineering, Biomaterials, Cell and Molecular Biology, or a related discipline
  • 4+ years of relevant research experience in academia, industry, or research environments
  • Experience performing laboratory assays involving biological samples
  • Strong experimental design and problem-solving skills with the ability to independently drive research programs
  • Comfortable working in early-stage, exploratory technology development environments
  • Experience with tissue preparation and analytical techniques to support evaluation of drug elution or tissue drug distribution
  • For Baccalaureate degrees earned outside of the United States, a degree that satisfies the requirements of 8 C.F.R. § 214.2(h)(4)(iii)(A) is required.
  • Possess unrestricted U.S. work authorization at the time of hire and for the duration of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced degree with 2+ years of relevant research experience
  • Experience working with advanced biofabrication systems or custom bioprinting platforms
  • Previous experience in the medical device industry
  • Familiarity with biomaterials development and cell–matrix interactions
  • Track record of innovation demonstrated through publications, patents, or technology development

Responsibilities

  • Design, execute, and interpret complex experiments involving biofabrication, ex vivo physiological models, biomaterials, and device/tissue/blood interaction assessment
  • Conduct laboratory-based biological assays, including blood-based tests such as thrombogenicity and hemolysis and other hematologic assessments to support in vitro and preclinical studies
  • Independently drive early-stage research projects from concept development through proof-of-concept
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including engineers, clinicians, material scientists, and translational researchers
  • Develop prototypes, experimental models, and feasibility studies to evaluate new technology concepts, primarily for Cardiac Rhythm Management
  • Communicate findings clearly through technical reports, presentations, and invention disclosures
  • Contribute to intellectual property development and strategic technology scouting
