Requirements

  • Doctorate in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Physical Sciences, Software Engineering, or related field AND 1+ years experience, including research and/or development of commercial software, compilers, scientific computing applications, or multi-component systems OR Master’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Physical Sciences, Software Engineering, or related field AND 3+ years experience, including research and/or development of commercial software, compilers, scientific computing applications, or multi-component systems OR Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Physical Sciences, Software Engineering, or related field AND 4+ years experience, including research and/or development of commercial software, compilers, scientific computing applications, or multi-component systems OR equivalent experience.
  • 4+ years programming experience in related programming languages.
  • 4+ years experience in a collaborative environment.
  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role.
  • Ability to apply AI to accelerate engineering while developing shipping & prototype code.
  • Ability to evaluate agentic solutions with measurable metrics and human-in-the-loop safeguards following Microsoft Responsible AI requirements for generative AI.
  • Ability to leverage AI tools to drive innovation and efficiency (e.g., performance modeling and analysis, research gathering, day to day task automation).

Nice To Haves

  • Doctorate in Physics, Engineering, or related field AND 3+ years experience in industry or in a research and development environment including post doctoral research positions OR Master's Degree in Physics, Engineering, Applied Mathematics or related field AND 6+ years experience in industry or in a research and development environment OR Bachelor's Degree in Physics, Engineering, Applied Mathematics or related field AND 8+ years experience in industry or in a research and development environment OR equivalent experience
  • 4+ years of experience in one or more of the following areas: high-performance computing, implementing quantum algorithms, fault-tolerance, quantum error correction, quantum simulation.
  • 4+ years of experience in a collaborative environment with demonstrated ability to work effectively across internal and external organizations, with strong communication and leadership skills.
  • Experience working independently and collaboratively within a dynamic multi-disciplinary team environment.

Responsibilities

  • Work at the cutting-edge of quantum computing, designing algorithms and applications for fault-tolerant quantum computers.
  • Develop and apply advanced toolsets for modeling quantum applications on a variety of hardware architectures, determining the quantum resources needed to execute them.
  • Develop and apply new techniques for application- and architecture-aware quantum circuit compilation and optimization.
  • Team with world-class engineers, researchers, architects, and leaders, contributing to your career growth.
  • Drive cross-group collaboration within Microsoft Quantum’s qubit modeling, quantum error correction, and quantum applications teams.
