This role is part of Blue Origin corporate functions, providing centralized support across Blue Origin business unit teams, functions, and locations. Blue Origin is seeking an experienced Senior Quality Control Mechanical Engineer to oversee quality assurance for complex industrial projects. The ideal candidate will provide technical leadership during both design and construction phases to ensure all mechanical, plumbing, and process systems meet or exceed quality standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (Master's preferred)
  • Current Professional Engineering (PE) license
  • 10+ years of experience in quality control for complex industrial projects
  • Demonstrated expertise in mechanical, plumbing, and process system design and construction
  • Strong understanding of industry codes and standards (ASME, ASTM, AWS, etc.)
  • Experience with quality management systems and inspection methodologies
  • Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities
  • Proficiency with quality control software and tools

Nice To Haves

  • Background in industrial automation and control systems
  • Experience in aerospace, energy, or advanced manufacturing industries
  • Knowledge of Building Information Modeling (BIM) systems

Responsibilities

  • Provide oversight and technical guidance during the design phase of complex industrial projects
  • Develop and implement quality control plans and inspection procedures for mechanical systems
  • Conduct rigorous inspections of mechanical, plumbing, and process systems throughout construction
  • Review contractor submittals, RFIs, and change orders for quality implications
  • Identify non-conformances and develop corrective action plans
  • Collaborate with project managers, contractors, and engineers to resolve technical issues
  • Ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and regulations
  • Document quality control activities and maintain comprehensive records
  • Train and mentor junior quality control personnel
  • Monitor and evaluate contractor and subcontractor performance regarding mechanical and plumbing quality through all phases of construction and commissioning
  • Lead mechanical quality reviews for commissioning events and ensure mechanical systems and equipment perform to standards and as required by codes and standards
