About The Position

SPM, LLC, a third-party property management company overseeing 170+ multifamily communities across 12 states, including a substantial Affordable Housing portfolio, is hiring a Senior Property Accountant with hands-on Affordable Housing accounting experience to own full-cycle property accounting for a portfolio of subsidized residential assets. Candidates without direct Affordable Housing accounting experience (Section 8, Tax Credit, HUD 202, or PRAC) will not be considered. This is not a fit for general corporate accounting, commercial real estate, single-family/homeowner association backgrounds, or conventional-only multifamily accounting without subsidized housing exposure. Strong fit requires hands-on fluency in both Entrata and Yardi, along with familiarity with HUD chart-of-accounts requirements and subsidy-layered reporting.

Requirements

  • Affordable multifamily property accounting experience is mandatory
  • 10+ years of property accounting experience, specifically within affordable multifamily property management, required
  • Hands-on experience with Yardi
  • Ability to handle both cash and accrual properties
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required
  • Advanced Excel skills and comfort managing multiple property closes on deadline
  • Excellent communication skills and experience presenting financials to non-accounting stakeholders

Nice To Haves

  • Hands-on fluency in Entrata
  • Familiarity with HUD chart-of-accounts requirements and subsidy-layered reporting

Responsibilities

  • Manage full-cycle accounting for an assigned multifamily property portfolio, including journal entries, accruals, and general ledger maintenance
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and owner reporting packages
  • Complete balance sheet reconciliations and monthly bank reconciliations
  • Analyze budget-to-actual variances and partner with property managers on trends and NOI
  • Serve as the accounting liaison to auditors, property managers, and Regional/VP leadership during close and audit cycles
  • Monitor cash positions, funding requests, and critical payment timing across assigned properties
  • Ensure financials are in accordance with GAAP for year-end audits and tax returns
  • Assist with cash-to-accrual reporting when required
  • Assist with system-level accounting setup for new property onboarding and PMS transitions
