About The Position

We are looking for an individual to provide full-cycle accounting for a portfolio of properties and to add value to the BGO Real Estate Services team and clients.

Requirements

  • Enrolled in CPA program
  • Minimum 4-5 years accounting experience
  • Minimum 2-3 years commercial/retail property accounting experience required including full cycle property accounting, CAM/Tax recoveries, and financial statement preparation
  • Intermediate to advance skills in Excel, Word, and other Microsoft Office programs
  • Communicate effectively, both oral and written; ability to develop and sustain cooperative working relationships
  • Time management, work under pressure, and meet tight deadlines; ability to handle multiple demands and competing priorities; ability to prioritize workload; ability to work at a detailed level; willingness to learn in a dynamic environment that includes new ideas and change
  • Police Clearance – A criminal verification check is required for employment

Responsibilities

  • Prepare accurate monthly financial statements in accordance with accounting standards, policies, budgets, and internal/client requirements.
  • Analyze budget-to-actual variances and investigate discrepancies or outstanding issues.
  • Reconcile and remit GST/HST and other applicable taxes, assessments, and related obligations.
  • Monitor cash positions, major monthly expenditures, mortgage payments, payroll, management fees, taxes, capital/leasing costs, and owner distributions.
  • Complete monthly bank reconciliations, review receivables, produce rent/receivable reports, and follow up on outstanding amounts and sales.
  • Support tenant invoicing and reconciliations, property setups, sales/turnover closings, and other property-specific accounting requirements.
  • Complete year-end operating cost reconciliations and tenant billings within required deadlines and monitor portfolio progress.
  • Prepare the accounting components of annual operating budgets, analyze changes in accounting treatment, and ensure budgets and tenant notices are completed on schedule.
  • Train, guide, and mentor property accounting staff on accounting cycles, procedures, property files, and accounting/property-related issues.
