About The Position

Gables Residential is currently hiring for a Senior Property Accountant to join our team in Atlanta, GA. The role is hybrid, requiring 3 days in office weekly and 2 days remote work. This role is for individuals who have mastered the responsibilities and skills required to be a Property Accountant and are ready for further professional development. They have also met and even exceeded the education and experience requirements of a Property Accountant. This role is responsible for managing the financial reporting and accounting operations for a portfolio of 7-8 third-party multifamily properties. The individuals in this role have a solid understanding of real estate accounting, strong analytical skills, and the ability to work cross-functionally with property operations and external owners.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (required).
  • Minimum 4–6 years of accounting experience, with at least 2 years in real estate, preferably in multifamily or property management.
  • Experience with Yardi property accounting software is highly preferred.
  • Experience with RealPage or MRI is acceptable.
  • Proficient in lease accounting and property-level budgeting.
  • Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP, particularly as it applies to real estate.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel; ability to analyze large datasets.
  • Excellent attention to detail, time management, and organizational skills.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with both internal teams and external owners.
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment with little to no help from accounting managers.
  • Ability to receive and apply professional feedback constructively to improve performance and job outcomes.
  • Ability to always maintain professional and personable demeanor.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all of the responsibilities of a Property Accountant, but for a portfolio of properties that could be more difficult in their owner policies and procedures, have tighter deadlines and/or have accounting functions in more than one software.
  • Perform full-cycle accounting for a portfolio of third-party multifamily properties, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and bank reconciliations.
  • Manage monthly close processes including journal entries, accruals, general ledger review, and preparation of support schedules.
  • Effectively complete the timely reconciliation of all assigned bank statements along with research and resolving outstanding items.
  • Coordinate with property managers to ensure timely and accurate expense coding, rent roll reporting, and accruals.
  • Accurately perform monthly depreciation calculations in accordance with U.S GAAP and maintain fixed assets reconciliations.
  • Review property-level income statements, balance sheets, and variance analyses for accuracy and completeness.
  • Accurately and timely collate, assemble, and distribute all owner’s report packages to appropriate parties.
  • Analyze, evaluate, and generate special reports as required by management and owners.
  • Effectively communicate with accounting staff, support staff, and on-site associates to ensure all required job functions are completed in a professional and personable manner.
  • Manage the liquid assets for properties through the preparation of cash flow reports, distribution of funds, timely debt payments, and initiation of capital calls.
  • Review and approve aged payables, allowing timely and efficient payment processing by accounting associates.
  • Support the annual audit and tax return processes by liaising with external auditors and tax advisors.
  • Participate in budgeting and forecasting processes at the property level.
