About The Position

The Scion Group is seeking a Senior Property Accountant to join their team and help define the future of student living. This role will manage general accounting functions for an assigned portfolio of Scion’s communities, providing excellent service to onsite teams and interpreting financial narratives for effective business decisions. The position is based in Chicago, IL, and is fully on-site, operating in a fast-paced, agile, corporate environment. The ideal candidate will possess curiosity, an eye for detail, and a drive to support others.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
  • 3-5 years of post-baccalaureate work experience in an accounting function
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills
  • Attentive to detail
  • Manages multiple projects and meets goals and deadlines timely and consistently.
  • Works well with all levels of management.
  • Works well independently and as a member of various teams.
  • Requires minimal guidance to accomplish general tasks.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in Real Estate or Property Management is a plus.
  • Experience with PMS systems such as Entrata is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains general ledgers in compliance with GAAP and updates them monthly.
  • Prepares applicable monthly journal entries.
  • Analyzes and prepares monthly financials for assigned properties.
  • Executes monthly reconciliation of all balance sheet accounts.
  • Researches and reports financial and operational variances.
  • Reviews revenue and contracts monthly.
  • Reviews month-end financials prepared by the Property Accounting Team.
  • Provides insight into variances to Directors and Managers.
  • Supports the Operations team as needed, regarding financial performance of assigned properties.
  • Responsible for monthly accruals, TRS entries, ground leases, and completeness of Cap Ex review and proper tags.
  • Responds to auditor inquiries as requested.
