About The Position

National Grid is seeking a Senior Project Manager to join the Distribution Programs team within NE Electric Project Management and Construction. This role is hybrid, requiring 50% in the office/field. The company delivers safe and secure energy and aims to shape the sustainable future of the industry by anticipating customer needs, reducing energy delivery costs, and pioneering flexible energy systems. The Senior Project Manager will oversee and execute the planning, delivery, management, and governance of projects within the Grid Modernization Distribution program portfolio, ensuring cost-effective and purposeful development and execution while improving long-term program robustness, requirements, costs, and timelines. Programs include Fault Location Isolation and Service Restoration (FLISR) and Volt-Var Optimization (VVO).

Requirements

  • Ability to foster positive and collaborative relationships with company personnel, contractors, regulatory representatives, and town/city officials.
  • Proficient in project and work management software
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects and issues simultaneously.
  • Analytical skill with competencies to transfer data between software systems, and ability to understand complex business reports in project management systems and other software tools.
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering discipline is preferred. However, candidates with degrees in other relevant fields, coupled with significant experience in project management, engineering, construction, and operations, will also be considered.
  • 3-5 years of experience in engineering, project management, utility construction, or equivalent relevant experience.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with the capital delivery process by overseeing the development and finalization of engineering and construction contracts, including managing preliminary engineering, baseline schedule, cost estimate and forecast, risk profile, and resource strategy.
  • Manage project and program finances and schedules, ensuring adherence to budgetary constraints and timelines. Identify and address any deviations promptly, taking proactive measures to mitigate risks and optimize project efficiency.
  • Facilitate the permitting process by liaising with relevant authorities, ensuring compliance with all applicable regulations and requirements. Proactively address any permitting challenges or delays to minimize project disruptions.
  • Develop and maintain effective communication channels with stakeholders, including regular reporting on project and program progress, risks, and milestones. Foster transparency and engagement, addressing stakeholder inquiries and concerns in a timely and professional manner.
  • Mentor and provide guidance to junior Project Managers, fostering their professional growth and development. Share expertise, best practices, and lessons learned to enhance their project management skills and ensure a strong talent pipeline within the organization.
