About The Position

HNTB is seeking a Senior Project Manager – Planning for its growing South Carolina practice. The role manages assigned projects throughout their full lifecycle, from developing scopes and proposal and procurement documents through contract negotiations and project delivery. The position proactively manages budgets, schedules, technical requirements, contractual obligations, and client communications to meet HNTB’s 4 for 4 performance goals: quality work, on time, on budget, and client satisfaction. The role typically manages teams for one or more mini-mega projects ($1 million to under $5 million) or mega projects ($5 million to under $25 million), or serves as a lead or key discipline lead on a super mega project (over $25 million). It also involves client relationship and business-development support, proposal and presentation leadership, and project team supervision and development.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Planning, Landscape Architecture, Urban Design, Engineering, Geology, Biology, Environmental Science, Anthropology, Archaeology, or a related field.
12 years of relevant experience.
4 years of successful project management experience.
Experience winning, contracting, and successfully delivering multidisciplinary or large/complex projects to on-time, on-budget, quality, and client-satisfaction goals.
Ability to independently identify and manage risk and change.
Experience leading large teams within and outside HNTB, including sub-consultants.
Ability to use system tools to manage, monitor, and deliver complex projects.
Ability to lead HNTB Sophisticated processes as applicable to the project.
Ability to serve as the lead client interface.
Ability to deploy talent to other projects and develop successors to work with the same client on other work.

Nice To Haves

Master’s degree in Business, Project Management, Landscape Architecture, Planning, Urban Design, or a related field.
American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) certification.
Registered Landscape Architect (RLA) license.
Registered Architect (RA) license.
Certified Environmental Professional (CEP) credential.
15 years of relevant experience.

Responsibilities

Develop project scopes and fee quotations, and assist with technical proposals and contracts in accordance with HNTB’s Sophisticated Contracting Approach (SCA).
Serve as the primary client liaison and manage project teams to deliver scope, schedule, and budget to completion and client satisfaction.
Lead client contract scoping and negotiations.
Lead and prepare design documents, technical plans, and written reports for projects.
Implement HNTB’s Sophisticated Delivery Approach (SDA) and lead development and execution of project management plans.
Supervise and mentor teams toward project objectives.
Oversee project staffing, including recruitment, hiring, development, retention, succession planning, staff reporting plans, and support for performance and compensation reviews.
Partner with Client Service Leaders and pursuit champions on business development, client relationships, and pursuits for mega and super mega projects in accordance with HNTB’s Sophisticated Sales Approach (SSA).
Work with project teams and marketing resources to prepare proposal and presentation materials.
Lead proposal development and client interview presentations for mini-mega, mega, and super mega projects, as well as presentations to industry and community audiences.
Manage project teams for mini-mega and mega projects, or lead or serve as a key discipline lead on super mega project teams.
Perform other duties as assigned.
