About The Position

The Senior Project Manager, on the Grid Reliability Team will be working in a self-directed manner, serving as a single point of contact for reliability distribution projects and acting as the technical expert in their field. This role is responsible for project management from inception to completion, maintaining internal and external relationships to ensure successful project outcomes, and managing internal and external resources to meet department commitments. The position requires an expert level of proficiency in technical skill areas such as feeder development, road widening, 12 kV, 35 kV, MUG, commercial development, reliability, Line Extension Policy, Service Extension Manual, URD joint trench, and street lighting. These activities involve considerations for cost-effectiveness, future growth, safety, code requirements, processes, and customer needs.

Requirements

  • Requires a bachelor's degree from an accredited college. Area of concentration in construction science, construction management, engineering, or technology preferred.
  • Six (6+) years of experience within project management, construction management, engineering, or technology may be accepted in lieu of education requirement.
  • Minimum of five (5+) years of project management, construction management, construction engineering, or construction technology, preferably for an electric utility.
  • Knowledge of electric distribution systems.
  • Able to support the Emergency Operating Plan.
  • Able to operate a personal computer, either desktop or laptop, for extended periods.
  • Able to work indoors, in an office environment, regardless of whether open office, cubicle or private office.

  • Professional certifications in project management desired but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Project management for the full lifecycle of system reliability planned and proactive capital rehabilitation of the overhead distribution system.
  • Coordinate and oversee contractor resource support for reliability projects and programs (large capital projects, FUW, RT10, RT300, PTSP, etc.).
  • Serve as the single point of contact from inception to completion for large capital project management functions including prioritization, planning, evaluation, inspection, design, work order review, tree trimming, permits, staking, easements, customer concerns, invoice review, and contractor coordination.
  • Work cross-functionally to ensure reliability projects and programs align with company goals and objectives, preventing duplicate efforts.
  • Evaluate existing reliability processes and methods for standardization and improvement opportunities, including training, technology, and ensuring awareness of reliability efforts among other groups.
  • Gather, analyze, and design distribution facilities and create construction plan documents, including material and labor.
  • Prepare construction sketches, layouts, and drawings of existing and proposed distribution facilities.
  • Identify, evaluate, and correct issues related to compliance with governmental regulations, code violations, and CenterPoint Energy standards. Corrective action may involve negotiation with customers regarding safety, cost, and legal responsibility.
  • Evaluate equipment type, size, and location.
  • Review facilities for compliance with the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC), National Electric Code (NEC), city and county ordinances, and CenterPoint Energy standards.
  • Review work orders for accuracy and ensure proper design criteria.
  • Analyze distribution reliability service issues and recommend appropriate corrective action, considering budget constraints.
  • Perform inspections as needed for final project approval and to ensure field readiness.
  • Review property information to confirm legal rights of ownership for easement acquisition.
  • Partner with others to provide assistance and direction on difficult/complex projects.
  • Participate in CenterPoint Energy's All Hazards Operations Plan (AHOP).
