About The Position

Reporting to the Director of Network Delivery, the Senior Project Manager – Network Delivery owns the delivery of the telecommunications, network infrastructure, fiber and supporting technology systems required to bring a data center campus into operation. The scope is campus-wide – every building, carrier entrance, meet-me room and the backbone that connects them – and extends off campus to the fiber routes, carrier facilities and service-provider deliveries that terminate at that campus. With 100% renewable energy, we build, own and operate our data centers and take pride in being at the forefront of sustainable solutions for the ever-evolving applications of high-performance compute. We believe that human progress is invaluable, but it should be done in the right way – responsibly, sustainably and having a positive impact on the communities we operate in.

Requirements

  • Minimum 10 years of telecommunications, network infrastructure or data center industry experience.
  • 5+ years of proven project management and people leadership delivering telecommunications or network infrastructure on mid to large data center or mission-critical projects of similar complexity to IREN’s.
  • Qualifications in an engineering, telecommunications or related discipline, or demonstrable experience and technical knowledge in data center network and fiber infrastructure.
  • Deep technical expertise in outside-plant and inside-plant fiber, carrier and MMR delivery, and data center structured cabling and network infrastructure.
  • Executive presence and reporting: proven ability to document and communicate project risks, schedule and budget clearly and consistently to senior leadership, in writing and in person.
  • Experience in a fast-paced growth environment and in solving complex problems with company-wide impact.
  • OSHA 30.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Suite (Project, Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • A clear criminal record check is required.
  • Must provide own steel-toed work boots; all other PPE is supplied.
  • Must be able to reliably commute to the project site daily or have plans to relocate before starting work.
  • IREN operates across multiple countries and time zones; a flexible approach to work hours is required, with travel to other IREN sites as needed.

Nice To Haves

  • Outside-plant fiber and carrier delivery: long-haul and metro routes, right-of-way and permitting dependencies, diverse entrances, splicing and OTDR acceptance, carrier POP and handoff coordination, service orders and turn-up.
  • Inside-plant and campus backbone: MMR design and fit-out, MDF/IDF, pathways and cable tray, structured cabling (fiber and copper), cross-connects, patch panels and labeling standards.
  • High-capacity network services: 100G/400G connectivity, DWDM/optical transport, and coordination with Network Engineering on logical design, VLANs and IP addressing.
  • Operational technology networks: network dependencies for BMS, EPMS, fire and life-safety monitoring, security, CCTV, access control, Wi-Fi and environmental monitoring.
  • Infrastructure records: NetBox or other DCIM platforms, asset and connectivity documentation, naming conventions and as-built validation.
  • Experience on direct-to-subcontractor (multi-prime) delivery as well as GC-led delivery.
  • PM certification (PMP or equivalent) highly regarded but not required; tertiary qualifications in project management desirable.
  • Industry credentials such as BICSI RCDD or DCDC, Cisco or equivalent networking certifications, or fiber-optic technician certifications (e.g. FOA CFOT).
  • Familiarity with SAP and with scheduling tools such as Primavera P6.

Responsibilities

  • Work directly with Network Engineering and external architecture, engineering and construction partners to ensure fiber counts, pathways, equipment locations, rack layouts, patch panels, cross-connect requirements, MDF/IDF infrastructure and inter-building connectivity are correctly represented in engineering drawings before construction.
  • Review network and telecommunications designs for completeness, identify gaps and conflicts, and coordinate changes before they become field problems.
  • Lead design and constructability reviews for network scope through IFC; ensure lessons learned and construction improvements are incorporated into the design and into campus standards.
  • Define carrier entrance, diverse-route and MMR requirements early in campus planning and confirm they are protected through site layout, civil and electrical design.
  • Coordinate carrier and service-provider builds to the campus, including route design, right-of-way and entrance dependencies, construction progress, splice and test acceptance, and service turn-up.
  • Manage service orders and provider milestones against the campus schedule; track due dates, escalate slippage and hold providers to committed delivery.
  • Coordinate campus-to-campus and campus-to-carrier connectivity, including DWDM and high-capacity services, with Network Engineering.
  • Manage the contracting process for telecommunications and network scope, providing input into the commercial structure and technical scope of subcontracts, vendor agreements and service-provider contracts.
  • Review quotes, submittals and vendor proposals; support purchase-order, long-lead equipment and material tracking against the schedule.
  • Work with project controls to maintain and report the network delivery cost plan, including forecasting of risks and contingency; advise early of cost impacts and communicate budget variances to the Director of Network Delivery.
  • Manage change orders within delegated authority; support contract and payment processes, including review of pay applications against work completed.
  • Develop and deliver the network delivery program of works within each building’s integrated master schedule and the campus master schedule, sequencing OSP, ISP, MMR fit-out, backbone, equipment installation and service turn-up against building milestones.
  • Maintain look-ahead planning for scope, capex, long-lead equipment and carrier deliveries; identify and resolve dependencies on civil, electrical, mechanical and building trades.
  • Lead recurring coordination meetings between technical and construction teams to identify infrastructure gaps, resolve ownership issues and keep dependencies from impacting project milestones.
  • Lead network risk assessments and maintain the risk register; report to prescribed frequencies and requirements.
  • Coordinate telecommunications contractors and vendors on site; conduct site inspections and work with site superintendents to verify installations are progressing according to design and schedule.
  • Establish measurable KPIs for subcontractors, vendors and service providers; verify fiber testing (OTDR, insertion loss), labeling and workmanship against specification; drive non-conformance close-out and defect rectification.
  • Ensure all personnel, including subcontractors, under their management are inducted and trained in line with company requirements.
  • Comply with IREN’s Risk, QA and HSE management systems; drive for zero harm and act as a role model for a positive HSE culture on site.
  • Drive NetBox/DCIM as the single source of truth for physical and logical infrastructure at new facilities: racks, rack units, PDUs, switches, routers, fiber panels, ports, cables, jumpers, VLANs, IP addressing, naming conventions and connectivity.
  • Coordinate collection and validation of this information during construction, with contractors and vendors contractually obligated to deliver it in the required format, so Operations and Engineering have an accurate infrastructure record from day one.
  • Own network readiness for building and campus commissioning, including fiber and service acceptance testing, OT network dependencies for integrated systems testing, and open-issue closure.
  • Ensure handover documentation – as-builts, test results, labeling schedules, DCIM records and asset information – is complete, satisfactory and filed; lead the network handover to Operations against an agreed acceptance standard.
  • Run network project control meetings with clear action items and deliverable dates for the project team, contractors, vendors and service providers.
  • Provide concise, reliable network delivery status to the Director of Network Delivery and the campus Project Director for consolidated reporting to senior leadership; escalate incidents, issues and concerns as required.
  • Take a professional leadership approach to contractor, carrier and vendor interactions; keep stakeholders informed and engaged; strengthen relationships with carriers, service providers, utilities and local government.
  • Collaborate closely with IREN construction managers, procurement managers, Network Engineering and Operations with a team-first, project-first mentality.
  • Give day-to-day direction to any Project Manager(s) supporting network delivery, including performance feedback and an agreed development plan.
  • Contribute to evaluations of project performance; facilitate lessons-learned workshops at building and campus close-out and carry those lessons, and the resulting standards, into the next campus.
