About The Position

Durwest is seeking a Senior Project Manager to lead a major infrastructure project at Victoria International Airport (YYJ). This role requires leadership across multiple stakeholders, complex coordination, and execution within an active operational environment. The Senior Project Manager will take full ownership of the project from preconstruction through to completion, ensuring it is delivered safely, on time, and within budget while maintaining strong relationships with clients, consultants, and trade partners. Requirements

  • Post-secondary education in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or a related field, or an equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in construction management and/or general contracting, with a strong track record of successful project delivery and client satisfaction, including experience in the commercial sector.
  • Demonstrated experience leading project teams and managing multiple stakeholders.
  • Strong leadership and decision-making skills with the ability to manage complexity and ambiguity.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities with clients, consultants, and trade partners.
  • Strategic thinker with strong problem-solving capabilities and a proactive approach to risk management.
  • High level of accountability, professionalism, and attention to detail.

Nice To Haves

  • Field experience is considered an asset.
  • Experience working in regulated or high-security environments (e.g., airports, healthcare, institutional) is an asset.
  • Proficiency with construction management software; Procore experience is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Lead all phases of the YYJ project from preconstruction through closeout, with full accountability for schedule, budget, and execution strategy.
  • Act as the primary point of contact and trusted advisor to the client and key stakeholders.
  • Provide strong leadership to the project team, including mentorship and development of Project Coordinator(s).
  • Maintain a consistent on-site presence, driving progress, resolving issues, and ensuring alignment across all parties.
  • Lead project closeout, including commissioning, deficiencies, turnover documentation, and client handover.
  • Lead contract administration across Construction Management and General Contracting structures (CCDC 2, 5A, 5B).
  • Oversee contract negotiation, scope alignment, and change management in collaboration with the Project Director.
  • Ensure timely and accurate management of RFIs, shop drawings, site instructions, and project documentation.
  • Own the change management process, ensuring financial and schedule impacts are properly managed and approved.
  • Own project financial performance, including budgets, forecasting, cost tracking, and reporting.
  • Lead procurement strategy and trade partner selection, ensuring alignment on scope, pricing, and performance expectations.
  • Contribute to preconstruction planning, including budgeting, value engineering, and cost optimization.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with trade partners to ensure accountability and project success.
  • Lead development and management of detailed project schedules in collaboration with the Superintendent and Project Director.
  • Identify and mitigate risks proactively, adjusting execution strategy as required.
  • Drive efficiency and continuous improvement across all phases of the project.
  • Lead coordination with airport authorities, consultants, municipalities, and utility providers.
  • Navigate a complex stakeholder environment with professionalism, clarity, and confidence.
  • Ensure consistent, transparent communication with all project stakeholders.
  • Set and maintain a high standard for safety, quality, and compliance.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, professionalism, and teamwork across the project team and trade partners.
