About The Position

The NYC Department of Design and Construction, Borough Based Jails (BBJ) Division seeks a Senior Construction Project Manager. The selected candidate will manage complex capital commitment projects; review proposed projects to determine how and when the work should be performed; work with Sponsor Agencies to ensure an understanding of project scope, oversee project from conception, through design development, to construction completion and project close-out. The selected candidate will be responsible for utilizing the agency’s technical resources to ensure that the projects meet the Agency’s Commitment Plan objectives.

Requirements

  • Four (4) years of full-time, satisfactory experience in civil engineering work.
  • A valid New York State Professional Engineer’s License.
  • Current New York State registration as a Professional Engineer must be maintained for the duration of your employment.
  • All candidates must be currently authorized to work full-time in the United States (U.S.).
  • Candidates must have proper work authorization when an employment offer is made.
  • Educational credentials must be from a U.S. Department of Education-recognized accredited institution. Credentials from foreign institutions require independent equivalency verification from an approved evaluation service.

  • A masters degree in civil engineering from an accredited college or university, accredited by regional, national, professional or specialized agencies recognized as accrediting bodies by the U.S. Secretary of Education and by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) may be substituted for one year of the civil engineering experience required in “1" above.
  • In addition to above qualification requirements, to be eligible for placement in Assignment Levels II and III, individuals must have at least one year within the last three years of experience as a major contributor or a project leader on a complex project requiring additional and specific expertise in the disciplines needed to design or construct the project.

Responsibilities

  • Manage complex capital commitment projects.
  • Review proposed projects to determine how and when the work should be performed.
  • Work with Sponsor Agencies to ensure an understanding of project scope.
  • Oversee projects from conception, through design development, to construction completion and project close-out.
  • Develop deliverable dates to determine schedules that should be adhered to.
  • Supervise, coordinate, and direct project’s construction management and construction staff.
  • Appraise the Project Executive of any issues with scheduling, cost, and construction.
  • Liaise among the BBJ Program Management Consultant (PMC), Design-Builders, regulatory entities/agencies having jurisdiction and DDC.
  • Maintain comprehensive project history files.
  • Help coordinate project schedules.
  • Address construction and design issues.
  • Review change orders.
  • Review project correspondence and reports.
  • Utilize the agency’s technical resources to ensure that the projects meet the Agency’s Commitment Plan objectives.
