About The Position

The Senior Project Engineer will engage in complex customer interactions, both internal and external, requiring excellent written and verbal communication. This role involves creating, completing, and managing New Product Development project schedules using Gantt charts, along with resource and milestone planning. The engineer will support senior leadership in tracking budgets and forecasts to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget. Key responsibilities include coordinating Engineering Change Requests/Notices, managing risk through matrices and mitigation strategies, and handling multiple projects concurrently. The position serves as the principal contact for design engineering in cross-functional meetings and interfaces with external customers regarding order changes, test and quality standards, drawing and document exchanges, and contract specification reviews. The role also supports department metrics, assists in developing project engineering and management processes, and may perform limited design engineering tasks such as technical papers, calculations, analysis, and drawing preparation. The Senior Project Engineer can act as a technical leader on New Development Projects, working closely with design engineers and the Senior Director of Engineering.

Requirements

Self-starter, organized, thorough and meticulous, able to work under pressure to ensure quality and delivery, but quality over delivery if any compromise cannot be avoided despite schedule pressure
Skilled at project engineering with interpersonal skills
Significant knowledge and understanding of standard manufacturing concepts, practices, and procedures
Resourceful and well organized
Ability to lead a New Product Development project and effectively work in a cross-functional team
Technical Writing – Procedures, Results, as assigned
Dedicated to high degree of accuracy
Ability to perform in an ambiguous environment
Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Project, Outlook, Access)
Manufacturing environment experience required
Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Mechanical Engineering, with at least five years’ relevant experience.
Must have working knowledge of PMBOK at minimum.

Previous experience with Integrated Project Teams is a plus
Valve design familiarity a plus
Valve, regulator, fluid mechanics/control related coursework/education will be additional qualification
PMP Certification a plus, but not required

Responsibilities

Complex customer engagement (internal and external customers)

Support Senior Director, Chief Engineer and Program Managers in tracking budgets and forecast to complete (on time, on budget)

Manage multiple projects concurrently
Principal contact for design engineering for internal cross-functional meetings
Communication with external customers to cover control of order changes technically; assurance that test and quality standards are achieved; interface with the customer in drawing and document information exchanges; review of contract specifications and communication of the requirements
Supports updates to department metrics as assigned
Assist the development of project engineering and management processes
Experienced in project engineering in a manufacturing environment with at least moderate understanding of manufacturing processes, design engineering best practices, logistics, and leadership skills that favor positive motivation
Limited Design Engineering work as assigned, including technical papers, calculations and analysis, and models/drawings depending on need and current skillset. May also provide technical guidance for the preparations of technical proposals
The senior project engineer can be a technical leader on a New Development Project, working with the design engineers conducting the detailed execution and in constant coordination and communication with the Senior Director of Engineering
