Senior Project Engineer - Transportation
About The Position
AECOM is seeking an experienced roadway engineer to support and oversee transportation and infrastructure projects in the Orlando, Florida region. The role provides technical expertise, leadership, and construction engineering inspection support to ensure projects meet contract requirements, quality standards, and schedules. The Senior Project Engineer serves as a senior technical resource and advisor, contributes specialized input to studies and design, and develops procedures to support high-quality, cost-effective work. The position also serves as Engineer of Record for small to medium transportation improvement projects and applies engineering expertise across preparation of discipline components of PS&E packages. The role includes design quality control, technical specification preparation and review, cost estimating, and input to project budgets and schedules. The engineer leads small to mid-sized project teams, coordinates interdisciplinary work, conducts technical reviews, supports junior staff development, and communicates with clients and stakeholders about technical matters and project status. Work must comply with FDOT design criteria, standards, and regulatory requirements. The position is hybrid and based in Florida. Relocation assistance and employment authorization sponsorship are not available.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in civil engineering and at least 6 years of related experience, or demonstrated equivalent experience and/or education.
- U.S. citizenship is required due to the nature of the projects.
- Familiarity with FDOT plan production and design criteria.
Nice To Haves
- Florida Professional Engineer (PE) license, or ability to obtain reciprocity within 6 months.
- Experience with Bentley OpenRoads and 3D modeling.
- Ability to design typical sections, alignments, and plan and section drawings.
- Ability to lead small teams to complete projects.
- Strong judgment in proactively identifying and solving routine and non-routine operational challenges, establishing objectives and requirements, organizing programs and projects, and developing standards and guidance across diverse engineering functions.
- Ability to perform independent technical reviews with knowledge of multiple disciplines.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a senior technical resource and advisor for assigned projects and team members.
- Provide specialized technical input to studies and design work within the area of expertise.
- Develop study and design procedures to facilitate high-quality, cost-effective work.
- Participate in interdisciplinary reviews of project deliverables and provide constructive technical feedback.
- Serve as Engineer of Record for small to medium transportation improvement projects.
- Develop construction cost estimates and estimates of technical efforts for projects.
- Apply expertise throughout the steps of completing discipline components of PS&E packages.
- Perform quality control reviews of design calculations, drawings, and technical documentation.
- Prepare and review technical specification sections for completeness and compliance.
- Provide input to engineering budgets and schedules to meet project requirements.
- Mentor junior engineers and technical staff.
- Manage client and stakeholder communications regarding technical matters and project status.
- Ensure compliance with FDOT design criteria, standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Lead small to mid-sized project teams and coordinate work across multiple disciplines.
- Perform independent technical reviews demonstrating knowledge of multiple engineering disciplines.
- Identify opportunities for process improvement and innovation in design methodologies and project delivery.
