About The Position

The Senior Project Engineer will be responsible for a variety of tasks related to project management and execution in a construction setting. This role involves generating and tracking RFIs, managing shop drawings, conducting drawing reviews, assisting with quality and safety plans, coordinating deliveries and site logistics, participating in permit inspections, and maintaining updated project plans. The position also includes managing the punchlist process, contributing to schedule preparation, documenting construction meetings, and supporting project procurement and change order pricing. Additionally, the role involves assisting with budget control, invoice review, and supporting the estimating process by learning take-off software and performing quantity take-offs. The Senior Project Engineer will monitor subcontracts, review subcontractor schedules, approve invoices, and assist the Project Manager with key project milestone meetings. A detailed review of owner contracts is also a responsibility. The role requires a willingness to travel and/or relocate as needed.

Requirements

  • 4-year college degree, preferably in a construction-related field.
  • General knowledge of estimating techniques, cost control and material pricing.
  • Ability to calculate mathematical calculations, understand architectural and engineering drawings, purchase orders, contracts, and cost-coding systems.
  • Ability to assume responsibility, interface and communicate effectively.
  • Minimum six month jobsite experience before moving on to Project Management or Field Career Path.
  • Four-year college degree in construction management or related field or two-year construction certificate with a minimum of 4 years industry experience.
  • Approximately 2+ years commercial construction experience as a Project Engineer or similar.
  • At least 2-4 years of successful commercial construction experience in a design-build environment.
  • A bachelor’s degree in construction engineering/management is required.
  • Must be able to read and understand engineering drawings, purchase orders, contracts, and cost coding systems.
  • Knowledge of estimating techniques, cost control and material pricing is required.
  • Familiar and comfortable with current technology.

Responsibilities

  • Generate Requests For Information (RFIs) and track approvals.
  • Monitor and maintain shop drawing log and shop drawing coordination.
  • Complete thorough drawing review while utilizing the Ryan checklists.
  • Assist Project Manager and Superintendent with creating and executing Project Specific Quality Plan (PSQP).
  • Coordination and tracking of Vendor and Subcontractor deliveries.
  • Help manage Ryan Safety Policies and Procedures.
  • Participate in establishing and managing overall site logistics.
  • Participate in the city and jurisdictional permit inspection process.
  • Keep office and jobsite plans updated with RFIs and ASIs.
  • Manage the Punchlist process including Punchlist inspections, record Punchlist items and help manage completion of Punchlist work.
  • Participate in preparing and updating the project schedule.
  • Prepare agendas and minutes for the weekly construction meetings and take an active role in these meetings.
  • Assist Project Manager with project procurement through development of subcontractor RFP bid forms and bid form evaluation spreadsheets.
  • Gain an understanding of unit costs, bid form evaluations and award procedures during the bid phase of a construction project.
  • Assist in Owner change pricing; prepare billings and review invoices.
  • Under supervision on selected small projects, prepare and control budget and schedule, award and negotiate subcontracts, participate in jobsite coordination meetings, review job status with Project Manager, prepare profit projections and complete Punchlist and project close-out items.
  • Support the estimating process and learn take-off software and unit cost analysis through preparing quantity take-offs.
  • Monitor assigned subcontracts, subcontractor schedules, and review and approve direct invoices and subcontractor pay apps.
  • Assist Project Manager with scheduling, creating agenda, and running key project milestone meetings (Release, Kickoff, Control, and Closeout).
  • Review owner contracts in detail.
