About The Position

ContourGlobal, a KKR company, is an established Independent Power Producer (IPP) focused on developing, acquiring, and operating electricity generation and storage assets across Europe, North and South America, with a presence in Africa and Asia. The company currently manages 5.5 GW of installed capacity across multiple technologies and asset classes, with an additional 800 MW of renewables under construction and nearly 12.6 GW under development. ContourGlobal is accelerating the decarbonization of its portfolio and evolving into a predominantly renewable IPP, supported by long-term contracts and innovative PPAs coupled with energy management solutions that deliver value beyond market standards. As a symbol of its ongoing transformation and growth, the company recently unveiled a new brand identity, celebrating 20 years of history and embracing The Right Power Forward as its guiding purpose. As Senior Project Engineer, you will join the Global Operations / Performance team and report to the Americas Technical Director. In this role, you will lead and coordinate the full engineering program for utility-scale solar PV and BESS projects, serving as the central technical integrator across internal SMEs, external consultants, EPC contractors, and equipment suppliers. Acting as the owner’s representative, you will drive engineering strategy from due diligence and acquisition through design, permitting, construction, and COD, ensuring projects are technically sound, commercially optimized, and delivered on schedule and within budget while effectively managing cross-disciplinary risks. Join us to drive the right power forward and make clean energy the natural choice for all!

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Civil, Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • 8+ years of progressive engineering experience, including at least 3 years in a lead or owner’s engineer role supporting utility-scale solar PV and/or BESS projects across the full lifecycle (due diligence through COD).
  • Occasional travel to project sites as needed to support execution and coordination.
  • Proven ability to lead multi-discipline engineering efforts across solar PV and BESS projects, coordinating internal teams, EPC contractors, and external consultants from development through construction and COD.
  • Broad knowledge of civil, electrical, interconnection, and SCADA/I&C systems, with the ability to review deliverables, identify risks, and drive resolution across disciplines.
  • Track record of managing third-party consultants and EPC partners, ensuring alignment with project scope, schedule, budget, and technical standards.
  • Strong ability to translate complex technical topics into clear, actionable insights for leadership, lenders, and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to assess engineering decisions through a risk and value lens to support sound project outcomes.

Nice To Haves

  • PE license and/or PMP certification
  • Experience supporting project finance transactions and lender due diligence
  • Familiarity with BESS systems (BMS/EMS, NFPA 855, thermal management)
  • Experience with hybrid solar + storage projects
  • Knowledge of interconnection, regulatory, and NERC-related requirements
  • Experience with SQL databases or Python for data analysis.
  • Knowledge of thermal or renewable power generation cycles.
  • Experience troubleshooting industrial communication protocols (OPC, Modbus).

Responsibilities

  • Own the overall engineering program for each project from acquisition through COD, establishing and maintaining the engineering schedule and deliverables across all disciplines.
  • Serve as the single point of accountability for engineering quality and completeness, coordinating civil, electrical, structural, and SCADA/I&C workstreams to ensure integrated, conflict-free design packages.
  • Lead engineering kick-off meetings, design progress reviews, and cross-discipline coordination meetings; manage action item tracking and issue resolution across consultant teams and internal SMEs.
  • Synthesize discipline-level findings into an integrated risk matrix and executive-ready acquisition memo, translating technical issues into commercial impact and recommended mitigation strategies.
  • Work with engineering specialists to provide consolidated engineering CapEx inputs for acquisition financial models.
  • Support RFPs, evaluate proposals, negotiate contracts, and manage all consultant and EPC technical interfaces throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Coordinate and integrate consultant deliverables across disciplines, ensuring cross-discipline consistency and identifying gaps or conflicts before they reach the EPC or permitting stage.
  • Manage the overall design process from 30% through IFC and as-built, ensuring design milestones are met and inter-discipline conflicts are resolved.
  • Coordinate equipment procurement interfaces, including review of PV module, inverter, tracker, BESS, and transformer technical specifications.
  • Manage value engineering exercises, identifying opportunities to reduce CapEx without compromising technical performance, reliability, or interconnection compliance.
  • Serve as the owner’s engineering lead during construction, overseeing EPC technical performance and coordinating discipline SME site visits, submittal reviews, and RFI responses.
  • Review and adjudicate EPC RFIs, submittals, and change order requests from an integrated, cross-discipline perspective; escalate issues requiring discipline SME input and consolidate owner responses.
  • Oversee commissioning and startup activities across all engineering disciplines, coordinating with the EPC, equipment vendors, utility, and O&M provider through Substantial Completion and COD.
  • Develop and maintain company-wide engineering standards, design criteria, and specification templates for consistent portfolio-wide application.
  • Lead post-COD lessons-learned reviews and translate findings into updated procurement practices, design standards, and risk management protocols.
  • Mentor junior engineers and project management staff; support the development of the company’s internal engineering capability as the portfolio grows.
