About The Position

Gafcon PM-CM LLC is seeking a Senior Project Engineer to join their Project and Construction Management Team. This role is responsible for field and project engineering, quality control, contract administration, shop drawing and submittal review, schedule review, and related support functions. The ideal candidate will take on leadership roles within the project team and be involved in strategic planning and managing more complex projects. Gafcon, founded in 1987, is a family-founded firm that specializes in development and construction management services for public and private sector clients, acting as Owner’s Representatives. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in construction management, architecture, or engineering (AEC) or equivalent combination of technical training and related experience.
  • Working knowledge of the principles of the construction process, plan review, cost estimating, scheduling, and contract administration.
  • Ability to accurately interpret construction contractual documents and contract modifications to determine cost.
  • Ability to accurately analyze situations and assist in developing cost estimates.
  • Proficient oral and written communication and presentation skills with the ability to communicate effectively with a wide variety of people with diverse backgrounds of all levels and disciplines.
  • Ability to develop and maintain positive, cooperative, team-oriented relationships with co-workers, supervisors, managers, clients, and others.
  • Strong customer service skills, ability to assess customer needs, and ensure delivery/receipt of service.
  • Ability to efficiently and effectively handle multiple and shifting priorities.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite.
  • Knowledgeable with PMIS (Unifier, Prolog, Procore, PM Web, and/or eBuilder).

Nice To Haves

  • 3-5 years’ experience in design and/or construction experience.
  • Certified Associate Construction Manager (CACM) certification.
  • P6, AutoCAD and/or Revit experience.

Responsibilities

  • Develop a strong understanding of Gafcon's role for clients, including project scope, contract documents (drawings, specifications, design, construction contracts), and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide leadership, guidance, and technical expertise to the project team to resolve issues and make critical decisions.
  • Coordinate and review design drawings and specifications, update as-builts, and track design changes.
  • Review submittals, log and upload submissions to the document management system, and manage the document control system.
  • Manage the work of client's consultants, including geotechnical engineers, surveyors, sub-surface imaging, deputy inspectors, testing and special inspectors, architects, and other required consultants.
  • Coordinate development of cost estimates with the estimator and provide technical assistance.
  • Coordinate and assist the bidding process, including assembling bidding documents, preparing bid packages, responding to RFIs, preparing addenda, attending pre-bid conferences and job walks, attending bid openings, and recording bid results.
  • Review bid packages, perform due diligence, and prepare bid evaluations.
  • Collect required documents from contractors after award (e.g., insurance certificates, bonds, agreement).
  • Prepare and conduct preconstruction conferences with the contractor and key subcontractors.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date project information in the Project Management Information System (PMIS).
  • Assist with the maintenance of computerized project reports.
  • Manage all projects to ensure completion in accordance with Gafcon's standards and client expectations.
  • Manage Change Orders: Review entitlement, evaluate costs and schedule impacts, log and track contractor-submitted change order requests and potential change orders, and provide recommendations.
  • Review contractor’s requests for Information (RFIs), log, and monitor design team’s responses, ensuring clarity and timely responses.
  • Assist in establishing a master schedule to ensure project completion within agreed time and cost constraints.
  • Review contractor’s baseline schedule and provide comments.
  • Review monthly schedule updates and comments.
  • Monitor construction progress to ensure compliance with agreed quality standards and specifications.
  • Assist with review of contractor’s progress payment applications and supporting documentation.
  • Assist with monitoring of required field testing and inspections, maintaining logs, and uploading reports to the project documentation management system.
  • Assist with review and maintenance of contractor’s safety measures, ensuring public safety and adherence to safety protocols.
  • Monitor contractor’s Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan Best Management Practices and dust control measures.
  • Assist with commissioning of projects with the Project Commissioning Team.
  • Coordinate project closeout, including required training with client representatives.
  • Review contractor closeout submittals for turnover to the client.
  • Manage warranty requests from the client and coordinate necessary repair work.
  • Serve as a technical expert in the project scope and provide guidance on complex technical issues.
  • Maintain a positive attitude, foster a team approach and culture on the project.
  • Pursue personal development through GafCollege, professional organizations, continuing education, and professional registration/certification.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
