About The Position

Collins Aerospace, an RTX company, is a global leader in advanced aerospace and defense solutions. We are currently seeking a Senior Project Engineer to serve as an Integrated Project Discipline (IPD) Team Lead at our Windsor Locks, CT facility. In this role, you will lead a cross-functional IPD team responsible for the design, development, testing, and validation of jet engine pneumatic valves used in both commercial and military aircraft, including rotorcraft. You will guide projects through the full product lifecycle from early concept development to certification ensuring technical excellence, regulatory compliance, and on-time delivery. Requirements

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience
  • Prior experience collaborating with suppliers and leading cross-functional engineering teams to execute complex aerospace programs
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience leading full lifecycle aerospace or defense hardware development programs
  • Background in jet engine components, valves, or pneumatic/mechanical systems
  • Experience serving as Cost Account Manager (CAM) or managing program budgets and earned value
  • Strong knowledge of systems engineering, requirements management, and configuration control
  • Familiarity with FAA or military certification processes
  • Experience with design-to-manufacture transition and producibility improvements
  • Exposure to Technology Readiness Level (TRL) development and new technology integration
  • Experience leading hardware testing, validation, and certification activities
  • Proficiency with engineering tools (e.g., CATIA, NX, Creo, or similar CAD systems)

Responsibilities

  • Lead requirements management, design, and development of assigned components, ensuring efficient execution across conception, procurement, manufacturing, and qualification.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to meet requirements, mitigate risks, and achieve project milestones.
  • Manage project resources to ensure timely completion of all phases.
  • Work with suppliers to resolve producibility questions and address technical concerns.
  • Generate and manage hardware change requests with the IPD team, including upgrades, work transfers, and producibility improvements.
  • Review customer requirements with the IPD team to ensure clarity, feasibility, and alignment with project objectives.
  • Manage revisions with Design, Structures, and Systems Engineering teams, addressing issues, risks, and approved deviations.
  • Coordinate with design, drafting, structures, manufacturing, and quality teams to complete component designs and detailed drawings on schedule.
  • Ensure design releases meet required lead times for part procurement and delivery.
  • Serve as Cost Account Manager (CAM) for assigned components, managing budget, earned value, and scope.
  • Monitor project financial performance, identify risks to budget or schedule, and report variances as needed.
  • Lead the evaluation and development of new technologies, collaborating with domestic and international teams to advance Technology Readiness Levels (TRL).
  • Ensure timely procurement of hardware and completion of production processes, including assembly tooling and production definitions, to meet delivery milestones.
  • Lead component verification testing, including requirements review, development of test procedures, test fixture coordination, inspection oversight, and collaboration with internal and external test facilities.
  • Review test data, verify acceptance criteria are met, and prepare final test reports for customer submission.
