About The Position

At PEC, you’ll work on a range of power projects, supporting utilities, municipalities, and other clients with substation, transmission, and/or distribution design. You’ll play a key role in developing designs, coordinating with multi-disciplinary teams, and ensuring projects meet quality, schedule, and client expectations. The Senior Project Engineer will be responsible for executing multiple projects on time and on budget and directing other design professionals in Power Engineering. The Senior Project Engineer will also work with other design disciplines internally and externally to develop engineering solutions for PEC’s clients. This position will be responsible for providing design deliverables for a variety of projects, while maintaining PEC’s standard of excellence.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a B.S. in Electrical Engineering Degree from an accredited college is required
  • Minimum twelve (12) years of experience in engineering required
  • Experience with computer aided calculation and modeling using industry accepted software
  • Experience in utility transmission and/or distribution projects is required.
  • Experience with codes and regulations, interpreting plans, and design discipline specific project components
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license in the location of practice is required

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with protection and control preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for project completion, in accordance with quality assurance policies, standards and project specifications
  • Develop E&I documents and deliverables in conformance with project specifications, scope of work, design parameters, codes, and industry practices
  • Develop electrical drawings and documents including one-line drawings, schematics, power plans, hazard classification maps, cable routing (cable tray/raceways), cable and conduit schedules, grounding, and lighting plans
  • Assist in the preparation of project proposals, cost estimates, and feasibility studies
  • Perform and/or directs engineering design, coordination with other design staff for construction documents and specification production, in compliance with building codes, construction administration, and development of reports/studies
  • Use experience, education, and judgement to make informed decisions. Retains knowledge and builds on previous experiences to increase capabilities in breadth and complexity
  • Organize multiple projects and tasks and complete them in a timely manner, on schedule, and per PEC Standards. Oversees tasks that have been delegated to other engineers and support staff
  • Serve as an advisor to the Project Manager, identifying and communicating any potential risk to the project in a timely fashion
  • Perform and/or direct power systems analysis using hand and software, including load flow, short circuit, arc flash, coordination and step-touch studies
  • Prepare material take-offs
  • Respond to technical inquiries from customers, vendors, and field personnel with minimal supervision
  • Review project contracts, schedules, and requirements to determine staffing, deliverables, and deadlines
  • Oversee tasks that have been delegated to other engineers and support staff
  • Perform quality control reviews at appropriate milestones
  • Mentor, train and develop less experienced staff
  • Travel from time- to-time. Travel may be for projects, training, or other work-related duties
  • Other projects and responsibilities may be added at the company’s discretion
