About The Position

Intertek, a leading provider of quality and safety solutions, is seeking a Senior Project Engineer - EMC to join their Electrical team in Lexington, Kentucky. This role involves performing testing and evaluation on various products according to U.S., Canadian, and international product safety standards, writing reports, and communicating with clients. The position also requires providing local expertise in product categories and mentoring junior technical staff. This role will travel at least 50% of the time. Intertek's Electrical business line has over 100 years of product testing expertise and serves industries such as Medical, Lighting, Renewable Energy, HVACR, Appliances & Electronics, Hazardous Locations, Industrial Equipment, Life Safety & Security, and IT & Telecom Equipment. Intertek is a Total Quality Assurance Provider.

Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering
4+ years of hands-on Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) lab testing experience
Must have a valid, unrestricted driver's license and safe driving record
Ability to travel to support on-site evaluation – up to 50% as business needs dictate, including overnight travel
Excellent interpersonal and demonstrated communication skills, both verbally and written
Must be self-motivated and able to work independently in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment with excellent organization and time-management skills
Microsoft Office software experience is a must have
Must be customer focused and quality driven

Nice To Haves

Master’s degree in engineering
Familiar with on-site EMC testing / certification requirements and procedures
Demonstrated experience with U.S., Canadian, and other International EMC/EMI compliance standards, i.e., ANSI, CSA, UL, EN, IEC
Prior project management experience

Responsibilities

Independently perform testing and evaluation on a variety of products to the provisions of U.S., Canadian and other International product safety standards.
Write reports and communicate with clients.
Provide local expertise in one or more product categories.
Mentor and train less senior technical personnel.
Read and determine applicability of national codes and standards clauses for the EUT (equipment under test).
Read and understand schematics and manufacturing instructions.
Validate the project scope and sample applicability.
Identify and locate test instruments and equipment required for testing.
Follow established test plan.
Develop and set up test plans.
Set up and operate EUT; perform and document simple repairs on EUT as needed.
Set up and operate standard test equipment including, but not limited to spectrum analyzer, oscilloscope, multi-meter, signal generators, amplifiers, surge generator etc.
Basic use of hand tools as needed.
Follow sample handling procedures, ensuring that sample is logged in and out of the system.
Move equipment as needed through the facility.
Properly package sample for shipment.
Perform testing of products in accordance with standards. Core tests include, but are not limited to: rating, leakage current, dielectric, temperature, pressure, stability, mechanical hazard, flammability, abnormal and fault insurance, rain, radiation, sound, and laser.
Train and mentor less senior technical staff.
Provide local technical expertise and maintain reviewer status in one or more product categories.
Proactively develop and communicate test procedures, new test fixtures and report shells for local office.
Investigate technical complaints for the local office and support accreditations efforts by performing technical audits locally.
Demonstrate enough product and/or standards knowledge to be considered an expert in multiple product categories for the local office.
Provide quotations for a large array of standards and complex projects and products.
Actively represent Intertek by participating on standards/industry committees and/or associations.
Perform preliminary design reviews (PDR) both on and off site.
Perform field labeling jobs.
Provide complex sales support such as giving presentations during client visits.
Communicate project status and test results to client, sales personnel, and management throughout testing.
Provide on-going support to clients as needed.
Within policy guidelines, identify, properly document, and recommend engineering judgments.
Perform other work as required.
