This position will design Electrical engineering projects (within the MEP Group) including focus areas of higher-education, industrial, commercial buildings, public works, regional water systems, energy, transportation and railroad facilities projects. Working closely with the Project Manager in charge of the project, the position may identify and develop the scope of work, meet customer expectations, assist in pricing contracts, perform engineering services, oversee project quality, identify resources and manage them relative to a specific project, and meet project deadlines and profitability goals. Position may be expected to serve as the Engineer of Record on project plans and documents. Veterans encouraged to apply.

  • Detailed knowledge of Electrical Systems design including riser/one-line diagrams, power distribution, electrical service size calculations, lighting design and cost estimates.
  • Familiarity with building code requirements and working with authority having jurisdiction.
  • Writing Electrical project specifications.
  • Construction administration tasks such as addendums, RFIs, submittal review and pay applications.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD and/or REVIT computer software
  • Bachelor’s degree in architectural, electrical (building systems background) engineering or related engineering field.
  • 4-8 years engineering experience in appropriate discipline.
  • E.I.T. required.
  • Must obtain professional licensure in the states required by company as soon as possible.
  • Ability to travel on occasion (less than 10% of the time), which usually would consist of visiting outlying locations, attending seminars or business meetings.
  • Acceptable driving records and provide an authorization to the Company to periodically obtain MVR reports.
  • Successfully pass the pre-employment drug screen.

  • Knowledge/experience of AutoCAD, REVIT and related design software preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Act as part of a team of professionals headed by a Project Manager.
  • Provide internal technical advice to project managers throughout the company for preparing proposals and developing client presentations.
  • Collaborate with a project manager with project planning and provide technical guidance on the development of the project scope, concepts and strategies to be used, task organization, estimates of effort, fee structure and amount, risk management, the identification of other required resources, and schedules necessary to complete the project.
  • Collaborate with the development of cost and budget estimates for the project.
  • Direct, manage and participate in the production of the project deliverables, up to and including signing and sealing of work products as a Registered Professional Engineer.
  • Perform or participate in preliminary studies, plans and cost estimates.
  • Plan, oversee, and develop final report for studies.
  • Define and oversee design process.
  • Design and plan production.
  • Conduct project status/review meetings.
  • Develop and produce specification and contract documents.
  • Oversee bidding and contract award.
  • Oversee Contract Administration.
  • Monitor and maintain quality on all facets of the project deliverable.
  • Perform site investigations and prepare report(s) documenting existing conditions.
  • Provide input to the project manager and/or others regarding the monthly project accounting process, including review of time and expense charges to projects.
  • Stay abreast of new engineering trends, techniques, strategies, philosophies and methods.
  • Participate in professional organization(s) in the engineer’s area of expertise and/or client focus.
  • Maintain professional licensure in the states required by the company.
  • Regularly analyze specific issues on project manager’s project to recommend solutions that are efficient and cost effective.
  • Meet with vendors of equipment on a technical basis with project managers and project teams as directed.
  • Select appropriate materials and equipment for the project application, accounting for desired performance, costs, and operation and maintenance considerations.
