About The Position

Mott MacDonald is seeking a Senior Project Engineer to provide technical leadership for civil and structural engineering services supporting transmission, substation, grid modernization, and renewable integration for energy infrastructure projects. This role will serve as a senior technical leader within our Energy practice, supporting project delivery, mentoring developing engineers, strengthening client relationships, and helping grow Mott MacDonald’s civil and structural engineering capability across Texas and the Southwest. The successful candidate will combine deep technical expertise with strong project delivery and client-facing capabilities. They will be recognized as a trusted advisor to clients and a subject matter expert capable of leading teams through the execution of complex utility infrastructure projects. As a Senior Project Engineer, you will provide the technical foundation for utility infrastructure projects that improve the grid. You will lead complex engineering assignments, mentor technical staff, support strategic pursuits, and help position Mott MacDonald as a trusted engineering advisor to utilities, municipalities, cooperatives, renewable developers, and industrial energy clients.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related discipline.
Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
10+ years of experience delivering civil and structural services supporting utility infrastructure projects
Experience supporting major transmission and substation programs, including infrastructure at 138kV, 230kV, 345kV, or higher voltage classes.
Strong experience with site development, grading, drainage, foundation design, structural steel, and reinforced concrete design.
Strong experience reviewing geotechnical reports and incorporating foundation recommendations into project designs.
Expert knowledge of industry standards and design codes, including ASCE 7, AISC, ACI 318, NESC, and applicable utility design criteria.
Proficiency with engineering and design software including AutoCAD, Bentley MicroStation, Civil 3D, STAAD Pro, RISA, SAP2000, or similar platforms.
Proficiency with utility industry applications such as PLS-CADD, CDEGS, CymCAP, ETAP, and Bentley OpenUtilities.
Strong communication, project leadership, and stakeholder management skills.
Experience mentoring junior staff and coordinating multidisciplinary project teams.

Experience working for or supporting investor-owned utilities, public power entities, cooperatives, municipal utilities, renewable developers, or large industrial clients.
Established relationships within the utility and power sector.

Responsibilities

Serve as a senior technical leader for civil and structural engineering activities supporting transmission, substation, and utility infrastructure programs.
Act as Engineer of Record, technical reviewer, or discipline lead for major projects
Establish engineering approaches, design criteria, technical standards, and best practices.
Support innovation and continuous improvement initiatives across the Energy team.
Lead structural and civil work packages
Develop engineering scopes, budgets, schedules, estimates, and resource plans
Monitor technical quality, scope adherence, and project performance
Ensure deliverables are quality, on time, and in accordance to client and company requirements
Mentor junior engineers and designers
Act as discipline lead on projects
Support recruitment, succession planning, and capability development
Help establish engineering standards, innovative digital tools, and delivery practices.
