About The Position

This position, Senior Project Coordinator – Engineering, will support Georgia Power and SOCO by coordinating, guiding and reviewing various activities associated with all aspects of pole attachment requests, pole replacements, pole removals and other aspects related to Power Delivery design, construction and maintenance throughout Georgia. The person selected for this position will be fully involved with the permitting, design, engineering and construction processes for pole attachment projects with other Company departments, communication companies, EMC and City electric systems, as well as local, state and federal governments. This position will focus on engineering and design of related work, discussions with customers to mutually reach most effective designs and coordinate closely with the team members involved with construction coordination and oversight of crews. This person will also be involved with various job designs for installing, maintaining, or removing of attachments on GPC poles, over-size load moves, internal communication lines, Distributed Generation projects, and other assignments such as storm related needs. The successful candidate must be able to build positive relationships; educate and support a variety of teammates and customers in engineering or construction roles. Ability to ensure all work is designed and completed safely and efficiently and in compliance with local, state and federal guidelines, Company and Industry standards for the benefit of all stakeholders is a must.

Requirements

  • 5 years’ experience in electrical distribution engineering, design and/or construction with an electric utility is preferred.
  • Experience utilizing JETS, DistView, Pole Foreman, and NJUNS is required; experience utilizing JUMS (Joint Use Management System) is a plus.
  • Experience in customer support.
  • Experience leading team efforts, cultivating a team environment for project success, and resolving conflict with both internal and external parties.
  • Experience leading projects involving multiple work groups and departments.
  • In-depth knowledge of electrical distribution systems – requirements, work practices, and procedures.
  • Familiarity with the National Electric Safety Code and Southern Company Specifications.
  • Broad knowledge of Company operations, policies, and procedures.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) is required.
  • Knowledge of contract administration.
  • Must be deadline oriented with strong organizational skills, and sound judgment and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with ability to evaluate progress, identify problem areas, evaluate alternatives and determine viable solutions.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, including effective verbal/written communication of insights, and ability to communicate and present effectively at all levels both internally and with external stakeholders.
  • Ability to quickly analyze and comprehend technical information and complex data, identify key issues, and recommend appropriate solutions.
  • Ability to perform work with a high degree of accuracy, quality, and attention to detail, in accordance with policies and procedures.

  • Ability to build and maintain professional working relationships with internal and external customers and stakeholders.
  • Must have valid Driver’s License.

  • Leadership experience in an external arena and/or Company position is a plus.
  • Experience in contract administration and/or managing contractors is a plus.
  • Understanding of functional business processes as they relate to design, construction and operations is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, coordinate, guide and review activities associated with all aspects of pole attachment requests and make ready construction, pole replacements, and pole removals statewide, including coordination of permitting, design and engineering processes and activities for all assigned projects to meet deadlines, and maintain and meet high standards for safety and work quality.
  • Coordinate preparation and completion of complex, detailed drawings and designs, estimates, material lists and structural analyses required for all assigned make ready work for pole attachment requests.
  • Lead contract engineers to safely and efficiently complete make ready process in accordance with state and federal regulations, contract requirements and SO specifications.
  • Support preparation of and monitor JETS estimates, job packages and job closeouts, and monitor and ensure completion of permitting and construction information in the JUMS workflow management system.
  • Ensure resources, materials, designs and permits are in place prior to commencement of and during construction.
  • Support functional accounting and budget management, billing and collection associated with projects, and ensure appropriate payment by applicants.
  • Provide support in formulating functional strategy and transferring knowledge both internally and externally, including management and documentation of processes; coordinate and execute training as needed for vendors and field services teams.
  • Provide support in developing contracts and rates for service vendor workers, and support management of resources to ensure efficient use of contract manpower, accurate invoicing, and resolution of performance issues and contract-related disputes.
  • Assist team with Company and industry responses regarding best practices and rule-making and other legal/regulatory proceedings.
  • Collaborate with internal/external parties on specifications, project changes and compliance issues.
  • Coordinate identification, tracking and removal of old poles, and perform various tasks in NJUNS.
  • Participate in SO and industry groups to enhance practices and share industry knowledge.
  • Build relationships through jobsite visits; routinely communicate with stakeholders to resolve issues or project questions.
  • Substantiate vendor deliverables for data quality, accuracy and completeness, seek to improve engineering quality, and take corrective action and communicate findings and solutions as issues discovered.
  • Coordinate inspection of attachments, and perform field visits to evaluate quality of engineering designs and verify compliance with work directives and safety codes.
  • Enhance team capabilities by seeking opportunities for improvement of existing methods, tools or workflows.
  • Lead special projects as assigned.
