About The Position

As a licensed Architect, this role is responsible for guiding design teams through design and technical development on multiple projects or large complex projects. Key responsibilities include risk management review and managing all technical documents through each phase of construction. The role also involves serving as a resource across the organization through training, mentoring, and conducting seminars, sustaining and raising the firm's image as a design-driven firm, and staying current on technical innovations and trends. This position will assist in developing marketing materials, participating in marketing meetings and interviews, and representing the Firm by actively participating in external professional organizations. The Senior Project Architect will also be responsible for developing white papers and thought leadership pieces. Design leadership includes exploration of subject areas, definition of scope, and development of novel concepts. This role requires managing a large number of consultants, delegating work, and providing direction to junior staff. Responsibilities include developing solutions to technical problems, designing and reviewing production drawings, managing record keeping, implementing risk management standards, and reviewing documents with authorities of jurisdiction. While some management tasks like staffing, fee estimating, and scheduling are involved, the primary focus is on technical and design refinement. The role involves developing, designing, and reviewing production drawings and construction documents for compliance, responding to bid inquiries, meeting with governmental agencies for approvals, conducting on-site observations, and managing project close-out efforts. Risk management includes check sets and reviews, maintaining records of design decisions, and providing technical oversight to ensure quality standards are met.

Requirements

  • Minimum of ten (10) years of experience in the design and documentation of projects.
  • Minimum of five (5) of those years as a Project Architect.
  • Proven track record of progressively more complex and diverse assignments.
  • Experience in multi-family, high-rise or higher education projects.
  • Substantial experience in construction document preparation and field observation.
  • Knowledge of building materials, specifications and construction techniques.
  • Experience in dealing with governmental agencies and building/zoning codes.
  • Appropriate knowledge of engineering disciplines to evaluate and coordinate work done by consultants.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Ability to demonstrate full knowledge of industry practices.
  • Proven track record of quality control on progressively more complex and diverse assignments.
  • Requires judgment, based on precedent and policy, in the development of a recommended course of action.
  • Thorough understanding of sustainable practices and industry standards.
  • Values and personality compatible with the Firm’s.
  • Proficiency in Building Information Modeling: Revit 2016 or later.
  • Proficiency in Rendering software: 3D Studio Max, Maxwell Render, Twinmotion, or Enscape.
  • Proficiency in Modeling software: SketchUp or Rhino.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD 2016 or later.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • A degree in Architecture, preferable at the graduate level, related field or equivalent experience required.
  • Architecture license required.
  • California license preferred.

  • Current affiliation and/or membership in local, state, or national industry organization(s) is a plus.

  • Managing record keeping.
  • Implementing risk management standards and reviewing documents with planning, building, fire and other appropriate authorities of jurisdiction.
  • Administering management tasks such as staffing, fee estimating, scheduling, and reviewing payment requests.
  • Developing, designing, and reviewing of production drawings and construction documents for compliance with design intent, building systems, construction detailing and coordination with specifications.
  • Responding to bid inquiries regarding pre-bid approvals.
  • Meeting with governmental agencies, committees or officials for purposes of project presentation, approvals and permits.
  • Conducting on-site observations and preparing observation reports.
  • Conducting project close-out efforts including punch lists, certificate of occupancy, and certificate of substantial completion.
  • Managing all technical documentation through all phases of construction including proposal requests, change orders, revisions to project scope through all phases of construction and project close-out efforts.
  • Responsible for check set and risk management review.
  • Keeping records of design decisions pertaining to selection of materials, detailing methodology and maintaining project manual.
  • Providing effective technical oversight so that projects meet the Firm's quality control and quality assurance standards.
