About The Position

Lead the safety and compliance strategy for a major public transit system. In this role, you will serve as the primary client lead and trusted advisor, ensuring safety programs, audits, and regulatory requirements are met with precision and credibility. Your work will directly strengthen system safety, improve audit readiness, and help protect riders, employees, and operations.

Requirements

  • Approximately 10 or more years in safety, compliance, or technical program management
  • Experience supporting regulated environments such as transit, transportation, infrastructure, or public sector programs
  • Background in audits, safety programs, inspections, or compliance reporting
  • Experience leading teams and managing projects or task-based work
  • Working knowledge of OSHA or FTA safety requirements
  • Understanding of safety management systems, hazard identification, and corrective actions
  • Strong communication, organization, and documentation skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a structured, client-facing environment

Nice To Haves

  • Professional certifications such as CSP, ASP, PMP, SMS, or similar
  • Experience with transit systems, including bus, rail, or multimodal operations
  • Familiarity with APTA standards or State Safety Oversight environments
  • Experience building dashboards, audit trackers, or reporting tools

Responsibilities

  • Own delivery of on-call safety and compliance services from planning through closeout, acting as both program manager and senior technical authority.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for transit safety leadership.
  • Translate client needs into clear scopes, timelines, staffing, and deliverables.
  • Manage task execution from authorization through completion.
  • Provide clear updates on progress, risks, and required decisions.
  • Guide Safety Management Systems documentation, audits, and corrective actions.
  • Support Safety and Security Certification and Risk-Based Inspection programs.
  • Ensure alignment with FTA regulations, OSHA requirements, and industry standards.
  • Monitor hazards, reporting programs, and safety performance.
  • Build task plans, assign resources, and manage schedules and budgets.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary teams and subject matter experts.
  • Ensure continuity for on-call and rapid response work.
  • Review deliverables for accuracy, completeness, and compliance.
  • Maintain documentation that is defensible and audit-ready.
  • Prepare reports, dashboards, and executive summaries.
  • Present technical findings clearly to leadership.
  • Elevate risks, delays, and compliance issues early.
  • Turn complex safety requirements into actionable plans.
