About The Position

The City of Burlington is seeking an experienced and dynamic Senior Program Instructor, Performing Arts Camp to support the delivery of our summer performing arts camps, featuring productions of Mean Girls and The Prom. This leadership role is ideal for a passionate performing arts professional who thrives in a collaborative, youth-focused environment and is committed to creating a fun, inclusive, and engaging experience. Reporting to the Manager, Cultural Programs, this position is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations and artistic direction of the City of Burlington’s Performing Arts Camp. Working closely with staff and participants, the Senior Program Instructor will guide campers through a structured rehearsal and performance process while ensuring a positive, supportive, and well-managed environment. The camps will run weekly from Mon-Fri., June 29, 2026 – August 21, 2026. This contract position will start on Monday June 1, 2026, and conclude Friday September 4, 2026. Successful applicants will be expected to be present for all mandatory training that will take place in June of 2026.

Requirements

  • Completion of a High School Diploma.
  • Standard First Aid and CPR-C certifications are required (or willingness to obtain).
  • Demonstrated experience directing or leading youth theatre productions.
  • Experience working with children and/or youth in a camp or educational setting
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Commitment to equity, inclusion, and creating safe spaces for youth
  • This position may require occasional travel between sites and/or City facilities and must provide own transportation.
  • Successful candidate to provide a clear criminal record check with a vulnerable sector screening at their own expense.

Nice To Haves

  • Preference will be given to someone who has completed or is in the process of completing a post-secondary education in Theatre, Performing Arts, Arts Education, or a related field.
  • High five certification is an asset

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for planning and implementing creative and varied programs to meet the needs and interests of all participants, including rehearsals, workshops, and performance preparation.
  • Provide artistic advice and guidance and support for camp productions (Mean Girls, The Prom and additional camp programming).
  • Assist with orientation, training, and evaluation of staff
  • Provide leadership and guidance to a team of Specialized Program Instructors and Program Assistants.
  • Ensure facility and equipment readiness for programs, including opening and closing facility.
  • Complete safety checks and ensure staff are in compliance with policies and procedures.
  • Foster a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment for all participants.
  • Support camp participants in developing performance skills, confidence, and teamwork.
  • Support the administrative duties of the camp site, including tracking attendance, sending pre-session information, and preparation for training sessions.
  • Communicate effectively with families, staff, and City representatives as required.
  • Ensure all activities align with City policies, safety standards, and program expectations.
  • Respond appropriately to any behavioural, safety, or wellbeing concerns.
  • Assisting in ensuring the safety and supervision of participants both on and offsite and are expected to implement and participate in activities.
