About The Position

As the employment agency hiring temporary workers to be assigned to the Gates Foundation, AgileOne is responsible for direct hiring and seeking candidates for this temporary role. The Global Policy & Advocacy (GPA) division's mission is to understand and shape public policy debates, build support for program and policy objectives, and develop partnerships to advance the Foundation's objectives. GPA supports advocacy efforts to engage diverse partners and promote innovative solutions. The Program Advocacy and Communications (PAC) team works in partnership with program strategy teams and other GPA teams to achieve policy and finance goals by developing and coordinating advocacy and communications strategies, using leadership voice, managing a grant portfolio, directly advocating with sector leaders, influencers, media, and government officials, leading issue-specific communications, and developing policy recommendations. This role is a temporary assignment through AgileOne.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent demonstrated experience, preferably in business administration or program management.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience.
  • Experience in project management, portfolio management, financial reporting, non-profit or related industry.
  • Practical understanding of all stages of the investment lifecycle and investment rules, mechanisms, regulations, policies, processes, and practices.
  • Proficiency in investment systems and tools, and ability to learn internal systems.
  • Experience in financial planning and analysis, budgeting, and synthesis.
  • Ability to analyze data across multiple tools and databases.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, with an ability to understand policy compliance.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of an integrated, diverse team and be comfortable in multiple, highly varied settings, and tight deadlines with different work and learning styles.
  • Ability to track progress across multiple projects and work toward clear deadlines, with timely follow-up to ensure all work is moving forward.
  • Ability to work with flexibility, manage multiple and competing demands, establish priorities, and adapt within a changing and dynamic environment.
  • Open to rapid change and able to learn new things quickly.
  • Able to distill what is needed next, even without expertise in programmatic content.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate, develop, and manage a portfolio of investments across PAC programmatic advocacy areas.
  • Implement and maintain activities associated with the life cycle of grants and contracts.
  • Act as a primary investment process advisor and contact for grantee/vendor initiation, reporting, and closure.
  • Serve as a primary liaison across multiple internal teams throughout the lifecycle of an investment.
  • Handle projects in support of programmatic strategic goals.
  • Participate in the continuous improvement of enterprise resource allocation processes.
  • Provide oversight or support of budget planning and financial reporting.
  • Provide expertise in internal (PAC and GPA) and external processes and systems to advise decision-making.
  • Work collaboratively with partners in a highly matrixed environment.
  • Support the development of team and GPA division process improvements and roll-out efforts of new internal processes.
  • Oversee several portfolios in transition on the PAC team.
  • Support Program Officers (POs) in rescoping investments and partner relationships with strategic intentionality, tracking, and care.
  • Coordinate with POs and Program Coordinators (PCs) across GPA teams and country offices.
  • Manage sensitive handoffs with transparency and trust.
  • Maintain rigorous oversight of investment transition status.
  • Support POs in capturing lessons learned.
  • Act as a subject matter expert on investment tools, systems, and templates and provide training and coaching to program team and external partners.
  • Partner with investment makers by supporting the development, management, and maintenance of a portfolio of investments.
  • Independently lead complex investments and partnerships in service of shaping and optimizing successful investments, as well as ensure alignment with strategies and intended outcomes.
  • Perform initial investment due diligence, including the collection of portfolio data, identification of trends, and management timelines.
  • Accountable for portfolio analysis and risk identification, as well as providing a perspective on portfolio performance and delivering thorough readouts to leadership.
  • Advise on sophisticated investments, budgets, and financial analysis to enhance impact, identify risks, and propose mitigation plans.
  • Build, develop, and manage relationships with key internal and external partners to facilitate the investment lifecycle, including engagement with and management of external grantee and partner relationships.
  • Steward highly complex partnerships.
  • Partner with investment makers to operationalize and shape key business processes, including annual planning, forecasting, regular portfolio reviews, financial planning, and budget.
  • Provide in-depth project management to the investment team, including tracking timelines, deliverables, communications, and change management.
  • Develop the nontechnical portion of the project framework and work on special projects.
  • Lead implementation and change efforts for the team, which may include developing new processes, sharing standard methodologies, analyzing workloads, and providing business updates.
  • Maintain file organization, team sites, data and records, and a system for tracking, monitoring, and prioritizing tasks and projects.
  • Serve as primary support for grantee/vendor initiation, reporting, and closure.
  • Serve as a liaison across multiple internal teams at the Foundation and as a resource on PAC-specific processes with Foundation program strategy team counterparts.
  • Manage investment workflow and data systems onboarding for new hires.
  • Support team projects as assigned by the Senior Manager, SPM and work with colleagues on the PAC business team on general coordination and investment portfolio management.
  • Responsible for high-quality interactions and clear, consistent, and proactive communications with internal stakeholders, such as investment owners, and grantees and partners in the field.
  • Support inclusive culture through modeling behaviors and actions; raise issues in a timely fashion to appropriate stakeholders.
