About The Position

In cooperation with the University of Florida, the Senior Program Assistant performs various tasks to support the Citrus County 4-H Youth Development Program. The 4-H Program Assistant supports the planning, coordination, and delivery of 4-H youth development programs. This role involves working closely with volunteers, families, and community partners to ensure engaging, educational, and inclusive youth programming. The ideal candidate is customer-service oriented, helpful, responsive, organized, and thrives in a dynamic environment. Work involves preparing educational materials for 4-H club and county programs; recruiting volunteers and members; training youth and adult volunteers in their role with community clubs and school enrichment programs, planning and implementing day and residential camping programs. Position’s immediate supervisor is the 4-H Extension Agent.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Two (2) years of experience performing administrative/clerical duties and program/project coordination.
  • Two (2) years of experience working with youth and/or volunteers in instructional settings (formal or informal).
  • Valid Florida Driver License or must obtain within 30 days of establishing residency in Florida.
  • Successful completion of Level II Background screening is required.
  • Must have or be able to obtain within 90 days certification in FEMA National Incident Management System (NIMS) courses: IS-100.c: Introduction to the Incident Command System (ICS); and IS-700.b: An Introduction to the National Incident Management System
  • Requires a combination of sitting, standing, and walking.
  • The job involves frequent lifting and carrying up to 10 pounds, and occasionally up to 20 pounds.
  • The job requires frequent balancing, and occasional bending.
  • The job requires the completion of tasks that involve typing, simple grasping, fine manual manipulation, pushing, pulling, operating foot controls/levers, and driving automotive equipment.
  • The job requires normal visual acuity and field of vision, depth perception and color vision, hearing, and speaking.
  • All employees will be required to work before, during, or after an emergency.
  • Knowledge of standard office and clerical practices.
  • Ability to prioritize assignments or tasks according to deadlines.
  • Ability to maintain confidential information.
  • Ability to build a constructive team environment where team members are committed to common team goals and objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in the development, implementation, and evaluation of 4-H programs, events, and activities, including school enrichment and youth camp programs.
  • Plans and schedules programs several months in advance while remaining adaptable to daily changes.
  • Coordinates logistics for workshops, camps, fairs, and club meetings.
  • Works to establish and maintain 4-H community and project clubs.
  • Drives and/or operates a county vehicle or equipment and must obey all safety policies, and roadway rules and laws.
  • Serves as a welcoming and responsive point of contact for volunteers, youth, and families.
  • Supports volunteer recruitment, screening, training, and recognition efforts.
  • Fosters positive relationships with community partners and stakeholders.
  • Provides resources and support for volunteers serving the 4-H program.
  • Facilitates hands-on learning experiences that align with 4-H’s mission and values.
  • Promotes youth leadership and civic engagement opportunities.
  • Ensures a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for all participants.
  • Maintains accurate records, registration, and reports.
  • Creates and distributes promotional materials, newsletters, and social media content.
  • Responds promptly to inquiries and provides excellent customer service.
  • Uses online database software to create and manage enrollments and registrations.
  • Prepares marketing and educational items, including flyers, brochures, and displays.
  • Manages routine requests for 4-H information and materials.
  • As appropriate, responds to incoming calls, emails, faxes, and walk-in Extension clients, and follows up as necessary.
  • Utilizes computer-based software and programs regularly for most tasks.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Comfortable working with varied populations and age groups.
  • Pleasant, approachable, and empathetic demeanor.
  • Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends.
