About The Position

The Evelyn Rubenstein Jewish Community Center is seeking a full-time Senior Production Technician for an immediate opening. The Technician will oversee and coordinate the production and technical needs for all theatre bookings, serving as the main point of contact for all events, performances, and rentals. The J boasts a 300-seat proscenium Kaplan Theatre and the Joe Frank Black Box Theatre, which combined present and/or host upwards of 100 events each year, resulting in roughly 250 days of production annually. The Technician will be hands-on, working directly with agency representatives and outside clients, and is expected to uphold the theatre’s reputation through quality work and lasting community relationships. Must be willing to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED required.
Minimum of four years of hands-on, professional event production experience in the industry for theatre/amphitheater, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Thorough knowledge of the operation and functions of technical equipment: lighting, sound, scenery, automation, rigging, computer networks and media equipment, etc., as well as maintenance and repair of same equipment.
Ability to perform heavy lifting, climb stairs and ladders, work long hours, and have a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.
Thorough working knowledge of standard theater production programs, including but not limited to: QLab, Dante, EOS software, Lightwright/Vectorworks, and digital audio mixing software.
Excellent computer skills, including knowledge of Microsoft Office, general email, communication, and calendar systems.
Candidate must be a highly motivated, independent self-starter with the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects, take initiative to learn new technology, and adapt to a fast paced, frequently changing work environment.
Ability to serve as an advocate for the agency and represent the J in a professional manner throughout the industry.

Nice To Haves

Bachelor’s Degree from a technical college with a management, theatre or technical production emphasis is preferred.
Project management experience and some staff management preferred; experience supervising crews strongly preferred.
Ability to engage effectively with internal and external space users (of various knowledge levels) to advance events and prepare spaces to best serve the client’s needs, while maintaining strong customer service values with kindness and respect.

Responsibilities

Manage the technical aspects of all productions, rentals, and events each season. The Technician is responsible for advancing all production details and meeting the needs of each upcoming event in a professional and efficient manner.
Work with the Event Services Coordinator in providing tours and technical assistance and information to rental clients along with meeting with potential rental clients.
Assist during all load-ins, loadouts, technical rehearsals and performances – this can range from being the only available labor to perform all necessary tasks, to acting as a liaison between the facility and visiting crews and designers.
As needed, the Technician will build scenery for productions using on-site tools and equipment. The Technician will also help design and outfit other agency spaces as needed for special events and receptions.
Depending on the needs of each event, the Technician will be required to program and/or run the sound and/or lighting boards. At times, the Technician will serve as the sound or lighting designer, working with the event producer to create show-specific cues.
Design, hang, circuit, and maintain focus for repertory lighting plot with more than 100 lighting fixtures.
Be the technology expert in the theatre, utilizing the most current and efficient technology for that space and supporting each program’s unique needs, including live-streaming and other hybrid experiences.
Perform regular maintenance of all lighting, sound, automation, and video/projection equipment and software. Perform repairs as necessary.
Be an advocate for needed updates to the theatre to ensure that the space is continuously supported and upgraded to the most modern technology. Provide detailed plans and acquire bids for any large-scale upgrades.
Maintain accurate equipment inventories and update all changes to the online Tech Pack.
Oversee all routine facility supply stocking as well as approved capital improvement purchases.
Hire, train, and supervise the technical crew. The Technician will schedule all over-hire and part-time technicians to meet the needs of each event.
