Senior Production Engineer - SRE

Zoom•San Jose, CA
•$98,900 - $228,700

About The Position

The Senior Production Engineer is responsible for the reliability, scalability, and operational excellence of Zoom’s government and military-facing products. The role focuses on deploying and evolving the observability platform, and building the systems and frameworks that guide team operations across Kubernetes, Terraform, and cloud infrastructure. This is a hands-on, on-call engineering role with end-to-end ownership of the systems built. The engineer responds to production incidents, conducts root cause analysis, and delivers lasting improvements. The team owns the cloud infrastructure behind Zoom’s government products and maintains end-to-end accountability for its reliability.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship or lawful permanent resident (Green Card) status.
  • 4–5+ years of hands-on experience in Platform Engineering, Site Reliability Engineering, DevOps, or Production Engineering in a live production environment.
  • Production-grade Kubernetes experience, including workload operations, troubleshooting, and cluster-level architectural design at scale.
  • Experience authoring Terraform modules and providers from scratch, not just applying or executing existing configurations.
  • End-to-end incident ownership and proven on-call experience, including structured triage, resolution, and post-incident review with documented root cause analysis.
  • Experience deploying, operating, or improving observability or monitoring platforms at production scale.
  • Scripting proficiency in Python and/or Bash for automation and operational tooling.
  • Clear written communication, including producing runbooks, incident reports, methods of procedure, and architectural documentation.

Nice To Haves

  • Hands-on Datadog experience building production observability frameworks, ideally in a government, FedRAMP, or high-compliance cloud context.
  • Experience operating in FedRAMP, AWS GovCloud, or other regulated or compliance-driven cloud environments.
  • Production experience with popular open-source observability tooling.
  • Background supporting 24/7 or mission-critical production operations.
  • Experience driving cross-team adoption of operational standards or tooling frameworks.
  • Hands-on Oracle OCI operational experience.
  • Familiarity with container image security and CVE remediation workflows.

Responsibilities

  • Architect and own the end-to-end deployment lifecycle of Zoom’s observability platform across AWS GovCloud and Oracle OCI, streamlining processes and eliminating manual steps.
  • Design and build Terraform modules and providers from scratch, along with GitLab CI/CD pipelines, to automate infrastructure provisioning and configuration management across development and production environments.
  • Operate and improve production Kubernetes workloads at scale; lead incident response, drive root cause analysis, and deliver permanent fixes that reduce outage risk and improve resilience.
  • Develop reusable frameworks, runbooks, and operational standards for broader engineering adoption, improving observability onboarding, alerting coverage, and operational readiness.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to define and track SLOs and SLIs, contribute to architecture and design reviews, and reduce toil through automation and infrastructure design.

Benefits

  • Zoom offers a benefits program with perks, benefits, and options intended to support physical, mental, emotional, and financial health, work-life balance, and community involvement. Specific benefit offerings are not listed in the posting.
