Senior Product Manager

Microsoft•Redmond, WA
•$119,800 - $234,700

About The Position

Microsoft is seeking a Senior Product Manager to build and ship search experiences used in Microsoft Copilot and other applications. The role takes search initiatives from early concept through launch, translating strategy into concrete plans and requirements, coordinating complex work across engineering, data science, research and design, removing blockers, making tradeoffs, and ensuring delivery. After launch, the product manager measures impact, learns from customers and iterates on the experience. The role calls for a builder who can bring structure and momentum to cross-team work, engage deeply with engineers on systems and architecture, and focus on what ships and how it serves customers. Experience with search, information retrieval or AI-powered experiences is valuable. The role owns product roadmaps and release quality, establishes success metrics and telemetry, and uses experiments and customer feedback to drive improvements. It also establishes operational processes, applies AI tools and automated workflows to product work, leads through influence, communicates clearly with stakeholders, and mentors peers. Microsoft describes its mission as empowering every person and organization to achieve more, and emphasizes growth mindset, innovation, collaboration, respect, integrity, accountability and inclusion.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and 5+ years of experience in product/service/program management or software development, or equivalent experience.
  • Technical depth, including comfort with system architecture and APIs and the ability to engage closely with engineering and data science.
  • A track record of shipping complex, cross-team products or features at scale from early concept to general availability.

Nice To Haves

  • 3+ years of experience working on training or evaluating search/information retrieval systems as a Product Manager, Software Developer or Data Scientist.
  • Experience with search, retrieval, ranking or recommendation systems, or large language model (LLM)-powered experiences.

Responsibilities

  • Translate team priorities into clear requirements, user stories and success criteria.
  • Take features from concept through private preview, public preview and general availability.
  • Drive the roadmap for assigned areas across organizational boundaries; prioritize the backlog and align with engineering on tradeoffs.
  • Coordinate dependencies across feature teams, platform teams and partners; identify risks, remove blockers and ensure work fits across the technology stack.
  • Define release criteria and lead scenario walkthroughs to identify problems and system friction before customers do.
  • Ensure experiences meet standards for quality, security, privacy and responsible AI.
  • Set success metrics for AI-powered search, including measures such as relevance and precision/recall, as well as engagement and satisfaction.
  • Ensure appropriate telemetry is in place before launch.
  • Use technical knowledge of APIs, infrastructure and AI models to form hypotheses, run experiments and A/B tests, and drive measurable improvements after launch.
  • Use customer feedback, telemetry and direct engagement to evaluate releases and identify improvements.
  • Establish and run planning, status, review and release processes that keep teams aligned and accountable.
  • Use AI tools, agents and automated workflows to accelerate specifications, prototyping, analysis and status tracking, while applying human judgment.
  • Lead engineering, data science, research and design partners toward shared goals and commitments without direct authority.
  • Communicate progress, risks, tradeoffs and results clearly to stakeholders at every level.
  • Coach and mentor peers, share learnings and help build an inclusive, collaborative culture.
