About The Position

The National Fair Housing Alliance (NFHA) is seeking a Senior Product Manager to join its Responsible AI Lab (RAIL). This role will manage the development and commercialization of an AI-powered civil rights compliance product designed for housing advertising platforms. This product is a pioneering evaluation and monitoring layer that assesses AI-generated housing content against the Fair Housing Act Section 804(c) standards. The Senior Product Manager will function as the product owner, guiding the product from its prototype stage to market readiness throughout the build period. This is a full-time, grant-funded position located at NFHA's Washington, DC office. Applicants requiring visa sponsorship will not be considered at this time, though individuals with OPT work authorization tied to an F-1 visa may be considered.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree is required, with a Master’s Degree preferred, in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Administration, Technology Management, or a related field.
  • Minimum of two years (with a Master’s degree) or four years (with a Bachelor’s degree) in product management with at least two years minimum experience in a senior or lead product role.
  • Demonstrated experience taking a product from conception to prototype or early-stage development, with a preference for those taking product to market launch.
  • Experience working with technical teams on software or API-based products, including familiarity with agile or sprint-based development methodologies.
  • Proficiency in product management tools, e.g. Jira and Microsoft Planner.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and product metrics: ability to define KPIs, read dashboards, and make evidence-based decisions from product usage data.
  • Proficiency in collaboration and communication tools: e.g. Slack, Google Workspace, Microsoft 365 or equivalent documentation platforms.
  • Ability to produce clear, structured written documents: product requirement documents (PRDs), milestone reports, stakeholder briefings, and grant progress reports.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in at least one of the following is preferred: regulatory technology (regtech), legal technology (legaltech), AI/ML products, compliance software, civil rights technology development (civictech), or financial services technology.
  • Experience with government, nonprofit, or mission-driven organizations is preferred.
  • Product management principles and frameworks: road mapping, backlog management, user story writing, acceptance criteria, and sprint planning.
  • Software development lifecycle (SDLC) and how product managers operate within engineering teams.
  • API-based product architectures and the basics of how connectors, SDKs, and monitoring layers function.
  • Market research and customer discovery methodologies, including how to design and conduct user interviews and synthesize findings into product decisions.
  • Revenue model design for B2B software products, including SaaS, API licensing, and fee-for-service structures.
  • Fundamentals of AI and machine learning as they relate to product development — sufficient to communicate effectively with engineers and researchers without requiring deep technical expertise.
  • Basic familiarity with civil rights, fair housing, or consumer protection regulation is preferred; candidates who do not have this background must demonstrate willingness and capacity to develop it quickly.
  • Familiarity with API documentation and testing tools (e.g., Postman, Swagger) sufficient to evaluate and communicate about technical specifications.
  • Familiarity with UX/UI principles sufficient to evaluate wireframes, prototypes, and user flows and provide actionable feedback to designers and engineers.

Responsibilities

  • Define and maintain the product roadmap across all customer-facing segments.
  • Own product-market fit: translate civil rights compliance requirements and customer needs into clear product specifications, user stories, and acceptance criteria.
  • Set and track milestone-level product goals aligned to the grant timeline, ensuring deliverables are met on schedule and within budget.
  • Make prioritization decisions on scope, sequencing, and tradeoffs in consultation with the Chief AI Officer and Full-Stack AI Engineer.
  • Lead customer discovery and validation across target segments: AI developers, housing platform operators, fair housing enforcement organizations, and civil rights agencies.
  • Develop and manage external pilot relationships, including with NFHA member organizations and state civil rights divisions.
  • Build and maintain a prospect pipeline for post-grant commercial deployment, including engagement with proptech companies, real estate platforms, and advertising technology firms.
  • Present the product prototype externally at conferences, regulatory convenings, and partner meetings.
  • Serve as the connective tissue between the technical team and civil rights practitioners.
  • Facilitate sprint planning, milestone reviews, and weekly team standups, ensuring dependencies are identified and resolved proactively.
  • Manage the product backlog and translate regulatory and enforcement requirements into actionable engineering specifications.
  • Report on product progress, risks, and decisions to the Chief AI Officer on a regular cadence.

  • Manage the product budget in coordination with NFHA's finance team, ensuring expenditures are accurate, documented, and compliant with grant requirements.
  • Contribute to grant reporting by providing product milestone evidence, user data, and market traction documentation.
