Senior Product Integration Engineer (CAD)

Mainspring Energy•Menlo Park, CA
•$130,000 - $153,000•Onsite

About The Position

Mainspring Energy is seeking a Senior Product Integration Engineer to own and maintain the integrated CAD definition of its Linear Generator as designs evolve. Design Engineers retain responsibility for technical design and subsystem CAD; this role ensures those designs are incorporated into authoritative product-of-record (POR) and future-state reference assemblies and work together in the complete product. The position combines product-definition ownership with hands-on, whole-product CAD integration. It requires strong 3D CAD skills, an understanding of complex mechanical systems, and the ability to resolve packaging, interface, and configuration problems across engineering teams. The role will use CATIA for full-product assemblies that exceed the practical limits of SolidWorks. Mainspring Energy manufactures and delivers fuel-flexible, low-emissions local power solutions. Its Linear Generators provide reliable, affordable, and sustainable electric power. The company began commercial shipments in 2020 and has hundreds of megawatts in advanced development and field operations for Fortune 500 companies, data centers, and utilities. It also partners with global energy leaders. The role is onsite at Mainspring's Menlo Park headquarters. The stated base salary range is $130,000–$153,000 per year, adjusted for local market conditions and employee experience. Mainspring also offers pre-IPO stock options and benefits.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, or a related technical field, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • At least 5 years of experience in mechanical CAD, product design, packaging, product integration, or complex equipment design.
  • Advanced proficiency with CATIA, NX, Creo, SolidWorks, or another advanced 3D CAD platform.
  • Demonstrated experience building and maintaining large, complex, multi-subsystem assemblies with disciplined reference and configuration practices.
  • Strong mechanical intuition and ability to identify packaging, clearance, routing, serviceability, assembly, and interface issues from 3D CAD.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical interfaces, drawings, GD&T, BOMs, revisions, and engineering change workflows.
  • Ability to communicate spatial and interface problems clearly and collaborate with engineers from multiple subsystem teams.
  • Detail-oriented, organized, and comfortable coordinating multiple design changes that affect interfacing hardware.

Nice To Haves

  • Strong CATIA experience is highly preferred.
  • Experience integrating products containing structures, piping or tubing, electrical hardware, thermal systems, enclosures, and serviceable components.
  • Experience with SolidWorks-to-CATIA or other multi-CAD integration workflows.
  • Experience with ENOVIA, 3DEXPERIENCE, or another PLM/PDM system.
  • Experience in complex industrial equipment, aerospace, automotive, robotics, energy systems, or another highly integrated hardware product.

Responsibilities

  • Build, maintain, and continuously improve authoritative POR and future-state reference assemblies for the Linear Generator.
  • Integrate subsystem CAD from multiple Design Engineering teams into full-product CATIA assemblies and keep the assemblies current as engineering changes progress.
  • Maintain clean full-product CAD structure, references, interfaces, metadata, and configuration logic across major assemblies.
  • Perform packaging studies, interference checks, clearance reviews, routing studies, service-access checks, and assembly-access evaluations.
  • Identify conflicting space claims and work with Design Engineers to negotiate interfaces and develop practical whole-product solutions.
  • Create and maintain reference geometry, interface geometry, envelopes, simplified models, and other integration artifacts for cross-team design work.
  • Support design reviews with visualizations of clashes, interfaces, access constraints, and product-level integration risks.
  • Identify and resolve inconsistencies among integrated CAD, drawings, EBOM structure, and intended product configuration before release.
  • Support Product Release and Configuration Management by providing a clear, traceable digital definition of the product state being released.
  • Help establish scalable methods and standards for CATIA, large-assembly performance, imported geometry, simplification, reference assemblies, and cross-CAD workflows.
