Our Neuromodulation Operating Unit provides advanced therapies for chronic pain, movement disorders, and other neurological conditions. Through spinal cord stimulation, deep brain stimulation, and targeted drug delivery systems, we deliver personalized treatments that restore function, reduce symptoms, and improve quality of life worldwide. In this role as Senior Product Engineer, you will lead the technical development of Neuromodulation products from early feasibility through market release. These products support therapies for conditions such as chronic pain, cancer pain, severe spasticity, epilepsy, dystonia, essential tremor, and Parkinson’s disease, and include implantable and external neurostimulators, implantable infusion pumps, as well as associated recharge and programming systems. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional engineering teams to translate clinical needs and emerging technologies into product requirements and design specifications. This includes providing technical direction, guiding verification and validation activities, and driving risk assessment and mitigation throughout the development lifecycle. You will also partner with manufacturing and suppliers to ensure alignment on requirements, specifications, and risk management, supporting seamless integration across the broader development process. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Computer or Biomedical Engineering with minimum of 4 years of experience designing requirements developments and structure, OR Master’s degree in Electrical, Computer or Biomedical Engineering with minimum of 4 years of experience designing requirements developments and structure
  • Possess unrestricted U.S. work authorization at the time of hire and for the duration of employment (for roles below Principal level)

Nice To Haves

  • Product Risk Assessment and Risk Management Experience (Fault Tree Analysis, Failure Modes and Effects Analysis, etc.)
  • Collaboration experience with Electrical, Mechanical, Systems, Software, and/or Biomedical Design Engineers
  • Experience working with Manufacturing Engineering and Manufacturing Processes
  • Product development experience (concept to market release)
  • Familiarity with International Standards applicable to medical devices, such as ISO 14708-1 or IEC 60601
  • Project Management experience

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute the overall technical strategy for product development
  • Partner with Systems, Labeling, Marketing, Regulatory, and other cross-functional teams to define and deliver designs that meet customer and system requirements, ensuring alignment across functional interfaces
  • Translate product needs into clear requirements and allocate design and verification responsibilities accordingly
  • Identify technical risks and lead the development and execution of risk mitigation plans
  • Facilitate cross-functional communication to drive design decisions, align on test strategies, review results, and resolve technical issues
  • Lead and maintain design failure modes and effects analyses (DFMEA)
  • Collaborate with suppliers and manufacturing partners to ensure effective flow-down of requirements and risks, and alignment between process and design maturity for builds and testing
  • Establish and oversee design verification plans, ensuring technical rigor throughout development
  • Support regulatory submissions and enable smooth knowledge transfer to sustaining/continuation engineering teams
  • Translate customer needs and emerging technologies into hardware technology roadmaps
