About the position
Desktop Metal is seeking a Senior Product Developer to join their Industrial Polymers, Product Development Team in Texas. The ideal candidate will have an advanced degree in chemistry or polymer chemistry, as well as experience with photocurable materials. The job responsibilities include screening and synthesizing new photopolymer building blocks, formulating and compounding resins, developing printed polymer prototypes, and designing and performing tests to measure material responses. Responsibilities
- Screen and synthesize new photopolymer building blocks for Additive Manufacturing (20%)
- Formulate and compound resins for large format printers and manufacturing applications (35%)
- Develop printed polymer prototypes (15%)
- Design and perform tests to measure material responses to known and new processing conditions. Perform analytical tests on designed resins and printed parts (20%)
- Assist the Product Development Team and Business Development Team as needed. Presents data and project updates to other organizations within DM (5%)
- Assist in laboratory maintenance (cleaning, inventory, etc.) (5%)
Requirements
- Must possess strong technical background on polymer chemistry, photo-curable materials, acrylic/methacrylic chemistry, and polymer characterization
- Must possess a strong technical aptitude and teamwork mentality
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to adapt to changing work orders
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment
- Excellent attention to detail
- Interpersonal skills to maintain a cordial and professional demeanor when working with other departments with DM
- Experience with a Windows computing environment as well as the ability to learn custom software packages
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Strong understanding of chemistry and chemistry principals
- 1 – 3 years working with photocurable materials
- 0 – 3 years of industrial research experience or product development working as a team member as well as an individual contributor
- PhD in Chemistry, Polymer Science, Polymer Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or closely related field
- Manufacturing experience in photocurable resins, plastics, or rubber industries (preferred)
- Experience in an industrial laboratory (preferred)
