About The Position

Checkr is seeking a Senior Product Designer to shape end-to-end experiences for its Verifications products, spanning employment, education, criminal record, and driving record verifications, with a key focus on drug and occupational health testing. The role partners closely with Product, Engineering, and cross-functional stakeholders to create intuitive workflows in complex, high-trust domains, balancing candidate ease, employer clarity, and operational realities. It is a hands-on role with high ownership, spanning discovery through execution, and calls for strong design craft, clear thinking, and excellent communication. The designer will own key product areas across candidate, employer, and applicable internal operational experiences, from discovery through launch and iteration. They will shape problems and roadmaps with Product and Engineering, simplify complex workflows, and design for transparency, error prevention, accessibility, and confidence in a sensitive, regulated domain. The role also uses qualitative research, stakeholder input, and product data to test and refine solutions; produces interaction and visual design for responsive web and/or platform surfaces; and supplies clear specifications and assets for engineering. The designer facilitates alignment through workshops, reviews, and storytelling, collaborates with business and operational partners, and contributes to design systems and standards. The role requires 5–8+ years of product design experience or equivalent, a portfolio demonstrating end-to-end thinking and impact, and the ability to simplify complex workflows while balancing user needs, business goals, technical constraints, and timelines. The designer should be able to plan and conduct lightweight research, work effectively across functions, and demonstrate attention to interaction patterns, content clarity, information hierarchy, and accessibility. Checkr describes its environment as fast-paced and collaborative. It expects employees assigned to a hub location to work in the office at least three days per week. Hub locations are Denver, San Francisco, Nashville, and Santiago. Relocation support may be available for people willing to move to a hub.

Requirements

  • A portfolio demonstrating end-to-end thinking, including problem framing, exploration, rationale, collaboration, iteration, and measurable impact.
  • Ability to work in complex domains where edge cases matter and distill complexity into simple, usable flows.
  • Strong product instincts and ability to balance user needs, business goals, technical constraints, and timeline realities.
  • Experience in collaborative, cross-functional environments and ability to influence decisions through clarity rather than authority.
  • Ability to independently plan and execute lightweight research, including interviews, usability testing, and concept validation, and partner effectively with researchers when available.
  • Attention to interaction patterns, content clarity, information hierarchy, and accessibility best practices.

  • Experience in background screening, HR tech, healthcare, identity, compliance-heavy, or other high-trust regulated spaces.
  • Experience designing B2B or B2B2C products, especially workflows used by operations teams or external partners.
  • Familiarity with design systems, documentation, and scalable component thinking.
  • Experience designing secure data, consent, and privacy-forward user experiences.

Responsibilities

  • Own design for key Verifications product areas, including drug and occupational health testing, across candidate, employer, and applicable internal operational experiences from discovery through launch and iteration.
  • Partner with Product and Engineering to define problems, shape roadmaps, and deliver solutions that align user needs with business outcomes.
  • Simplify workflows for verification requests, document collection, consent and authorization, appointment scheduling, status visibility, and exception handling.
  • Use AI-assisted design and development tools to prototype and validate rapidly and, when appropriate, implement lightweight UI changes in code.
  • Design clear and trustworthy experiences in a sensitive, regulated domain, prioritizing transparency, error prevention, accessibility, and confidence-building UI patterns.
  • Combine qualitative research, stakeholder input, and product data to propose, test, and refine solutions.
  • Create interaction and visual design for responsive web and/or platform surfaces, and produce specifications and assets for engineering.
  • Facilitate alignment through workshops, design reviews, and storytelling to help teams move from ambiguity to decisions.
  • Collaborate with Customer Success, Sales, Compliance/Legal, Data, and Operations to ensure designs work in practice.
  • Contribute to design systems and standards to improve consistency, speed, and quality.

Benefits

  • Competitive cash and equity compensation, with opportunity for advancement.
  • 100% medical, dental, and vision coverage.
  • Up to $25K reimbursement for fertility, adoption, and parental planning services.
  • Flexible PTO policy.
