About The Position

Checkr is seeking a Senior Product Designer to shape end-to-end experiences for its Verifications products, including employment, education, criminal record, and driving record verifications, with a particular focus on drug and occupational health testing. The designer will partner with Product, Engineering, and cross-functional stakeholders to create intuitive workflows in complex, high-trust domains, balancing candidate ease, employer clarity, and operational needs. This is a hands-on role with significant ownership, spanning discovery through execution, and requiring strong craft, clear thinking, and effective communication. The role covers candidate, employer, and internal operational experiences as applicable. The designer will define problems and help shape roadmaps; simplify verification requests, document collection, consent and authorization, appointment scheduling, status visibility, and exception handling; and design trustworthy, accessible experiences that promote transparency, prevent errors, and build confidence. The designer will use qualitative research, stakeholder input, and product data to test and refine solutions, and produce interaction and visual designs, specifications, and assets for responsive web and/or platform surfaces. The role also involves facilitating alignment through workshops and design reviews, collaborating with partners across Customer Success, Sales, Compliance/Legal, Data, and Operations, and contributing to design systems and standards.

Requirements

  • 5–8+ years of product design experience, or equivalent, with a strong track record of shipping high-quality work.
  • A portfolio demonstrating end-to-end thinking, including problem framing, exploration, rationale, collaboration, iteration, and measurable impact.
  • Ability to work in complex domains where edge cases matter and distill complexity into simple, usable flows.
  • Strong product instincts and ability to balance user needs, business goals, technical constraints, and timeline realities.
  • Experience in collaborative, cross-functional environments and ability to influence decisions through clarity rather than authority.
  • Ability to independently plan and execute lightweight research, including interviews, usability testing, and concept validation, and to partner effectively with researchers when available.
  • Strong attention to interaction patterns, content clarity, information hierarchy, and accessibility best practices.
  • Bias for action, resilience through ambiguity, urgency, ownership, and commitment to delivering meaningful outcomes.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in background screening, HR tech, healthcare, identity, compliance-heavy, or other high-trust regulated spaces.
  • Experience designing B2B or B2B2C products, especially workflows used by operations teams or external partners.
  • Familiarity with design systems, documentation, and scalable component thinking.
  • Experience designing for secure data, consent, and privacy-forward user experiences.

Responsibilities

  • Own design for key Verifications product areas, including drug and occupational health testing, across candidate, employer, and internal operational experiences as applicable, from discovery through launch and iteration.
  • Partner with Product and Engineering to define problems, shape roadmaps, and deliver high-quality solutions aligned with user needs and business outcomes.
  • Simplify complex workflows, including verification requests, document collection, consent and authorization, appointment scheduling, status visibility, and exception handling.
  • Use AI-assisted design and development tools to prototype and validate ideas rapidly and, when appropriate, implement lightweight UI changes in code.
  • Design for trust and clarity in a sensitive, regulated domain, emphasizing transparency, error prevention, accessibility, and confidence-building UI patterns.
  • Combine qualitative research, stakeholder input, and product data to propose, test, and refine solutions.
  • Create interaction and visual designs for responsive web and/or platform surfaces, producing clear specifications and assets for Engineering.
  • Facilitate alignment through workshops, design reviews, and clear storytelling to help teams move from ambiguity to decisions.
  • Collaborate with Customer Success, Sales, Compliance/Legal, Data, and Operations to ensure designs work in practice.
  • Contribute to design systems and standards to improve consistency, speed, and quality across Checkr.

Benefits

  • Learning and development allowance.
  • Competitive cash and equity compensation, with opportunity for advancement.
  • 100% medical, dental, and vision coverage.
  • Up to $25,000 reimbursement for fertility, adoption, and parental planning services.
  • Flexible PTO policy.
  • Monthly wellness stipend.
  • In-office lunch five times a week, commuter stipend, snacks, and beverages.
  • Relocation stipend may be available for those willing to relocate to a Checkr hub location.
