About The Position

AWS Infrastructure Services is responsible for the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure, ensuring customers have continual access to innovation. This role is part of a diverse team of engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, and operations managers who collaborate to maintain the highest standards of safety and security while providing scalable and cost-effective solutions. The Senior Product Design Electrical Engineer will focus on busduct and tap-off box (TOB) experience for the Electrical Products and Services team, which is responsible for the design and continuous innovation of products used in AWS data centers. The team aims to design and develop resilient, cost-effective electrical distribution products and systems to achieve world-class uptime. Engineers at Amazon are responsible for driving advancements, communicating technical direction to senior leadership, and enhancing the reliability, scalability, and cost-effectiveness of engineering designs. The position involves global travel up to 30%, with potential for international support and project leadership, including developing engineering information packages. Understanding of international electrical product design requirements is helpful but not essential.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of data center design, construction, operations, or facility maintenance experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field
  • Knowledge of critical data center mechanical and electrical equipment
  • Experience developing solutions and executing plans on complex projects
  • Experience in industrial or commercial engineering in mission critical facilities including but not limited to: data centers, power generation or oil and gas facilities
  • Experience researching new designs, technologies, and construction methods of data center equipment and facilities

Responsibilities

  • Work with internal partner teams to solicit customer input and define design requirements for product design.
  • Lead new product design, development and qualification of critical electrical power distribution equipment for AWS datacenters with primary focus on busduct systems and tap-off boxes (TOBs) as well as connecting dependencies with LV switchgear , power distribution cabinets, and rack-level power delivery.
  • Develop Capex and Opex spending budgets taking into account development costs with vendors, prototyping needs, testing and specialized tooling requirements.
  • Work with global suppliers and manufacturers to specify appropriate busduct and TOB components, ensuring tier 2-3 supply chain resiliency.
  • Ensure compliance with UL, CSA, IEC and federal, state and municipal requirements and building codes across different countries through appropriate levels of testing.
  • Validate design through prototype, pre-production and first-of-kind builds, conducting DFx and value engineering analysis through each step and updating design and documentation.
  • Work with field engineering and commissioning teams to properly test and validate installation, operation, and performance of busduct and TOB products.
  • Ability to provide support for manufacturing activities for the new products on concurrent projects in multiple geographical locations.
  • Be a leader within the product development team as well as within internal and external teams that support the data center.
