Senior Process Mechanical Engineer, Power

AtkinsRéalis•Bothell, WA

About The Position

AtkinsRéalis is seeking a Senior Process Mechanical Engineer specializing in combined-cycle power plant design to join its Power engineering team. The role supports engineering execution for new and existing power generation facilities, including simple-cycle and combined-cycle plants. It calls for strong technical knowledge of thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid systems, and equipment specification. The preferred location is Bothell, Washington, with hybrid or remote work arrangements available. The engineer performs mechanical design, equipment sizing, system modeling, and P&ID development; leads project-assigned mechanical engineering teams; and coordinates with multidisciplinary teams, clients, vendors, and external partners. The role also includes producing calculations and technical documentation, developing equipment specifications, supporting proposals and project planning, reviewing vendor submittals, and responding to technical inquiries. Occasional field engineering support may involve site visits, inspections, testing oversight, and construction support. The position emphasizes quality assurance, safety, and compliance with applicable codes and standards. The position requires a bachelor's degree in mechanical or chemical engineering, or a related discipline, from an ABET-accredited program, and at least 10 years of engineering experience. Power generation or industrial facilities experience is preferred. A Professional Engineer license is preferred. The expected compensation range is $120,000–$160,000, depending on skills, experience, and geographical location.

Responsibilities

  • Perform mechanical engineering design for combined-cycle and simple-cycle power generation systems, including equipment sizing, system modeling, and P&ID development.
  • Lead and direct the project-assigned mechanical engineering team to deliver high-quality designs while coordinating work, maintaining technical accuracy, and meeting schedule requirements.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams, clients, and external partners to support project technical success.
  • Prepare calculations, schematics, technical documentation, and design deliverables with clear assumptions and references.
  • Develop equipment specifications for pumps, heat exchangers, pressure vessels, compressors, boilers, cooling systems, and balance-of-plant components.
  • Support proposal development, cost estimation, and project execution planning as needed.
  • Coordinate with equipment vendors, review submittals, and respond to technical inquiries.
