Senior Process Engineer - Combustion
About The Position
Vallourec is seeking a Sr. Process Engineer – Combustion to lead heat treat process engineering across multiple locations. This role is critical in improving product quality, furnace performance, and CO2 reduction. As a senior technical leader within the Operations Technology team, the engineer will lead and develop a multi-site team, own the technical performance of all furnaces, and drive continuous improvement initiatives. The role involves applying various statistical and problem-solving methodologies, identifying and implementing capital projects, and collaborating with R&D. A strong focus on safety, sustainability, and effective communication is essential.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or metallurgical engineering/Materials Science (required).
- 5+ years of experience in the pipe, steel, or related manufacturing industry.
- Strong background in process control, lean manufacturing, and statistical problem-solving.
- Proven leadership experience guiding engineers and driving cross-functional initiatives.
- Demonstrated success leading capital projects and process improvement programs.
- Ability to independently manage complex initiatives in a multi-site environment.
- Ideal experience with furnaces, burners, and refractory systems.

- Advanced degree (M.S. or Ph.D.) preferred.
Responsibilities
- Lead and develop a multi-site team of Heat Treat process engineers.
- Own the technical performance of all furnaces, ensuring robust, safe, and consistent operation.
- Improve product quality, process control, and cost performance through data-driven process optimization.
- Reduce process variation by maintaining and improving standard procedures and training engineers and operators.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives, quality loops, and root-cause problem-solving efforts.
- Apply Manufacturing Process Control (MPC), Six Sigma, SPC, DOE, FMEA, and capability analysis to resolve quality and production issues.
- Identify, develop, and implement capital projects aligned with Vallourec’s long-term strategy.
- Lead and support R&D collaboration, benchmarking, and trials of new technologies, processes, and materials.
- Build and track KPIs, report performance, and drive corrective actions.
- Champion safe furnace operation with a strong focus on sustainability and CO2 emission reduction.
- Communicate effectively across departments, sites, and organizational levels.
