About The Position

SAIC is seeking a Senior Principal Systems Engineer to support the Tactical Networks (TACNET) Capabilities Based in Service Engineering Agent (CB-ISEA). The role supports the sustainment and modernization of tactical networks, including ADNS, CANES, CENTRIXS, ISNS, SCI Networks, and Flank Speed Wireless. The engineer will lead efforts involving tactical networks and design, develop, and sustain DoD system networks, working with development and sustainment engineering teams to improve and modernize afloat networks using Agile methods in a DevOps environment. The position is hybrid/remote in San Diego, California, but candidates must be local because periodic onsite visits are required. Travel of up to 10% and occasional off-hours support may be required. The position provides system life-cycle software engineering support to NAVWAR and NIWC customers, primarily for software components used on fielded TACNET systems. Work includes sustaining and modifying systems to replace end-of-support commercial components, add interfaces, and meet customer requirements. The engineer analyzes system deficiencies and failure data, proposes and reviews solutions, works with production engineers on implementation, and manages engineering documentation and solutions through formal configuration management. Solutions are primarily for Red Hat/Linux-based operating systems. Additional work includes technical meetings and reviews, system installation and upgrades, configuration management, distance support, and emergent onsite CASREP support. The engineer performs root-cause analysis, develops and tests complex software solutions, applies pattern-based architecture, governance, and security to system changes and deployments, and uses Atlassian tools such as JIRA to support Agile and sprint-based operations. The role also involves source-code deployment across classification levels and environments, estimating work activities and durations, coordinating with external partners, and supporting system integration. Strong object-oriented programming and web-based programming experience is relevant.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and 14 or more years of experience, or a master’s degree and 12 or more years, or a PhD or JD and 9 or more years.
  • Experience supporting DoD C4ISR systems in an enterprise-level IT environment, such as ISNS, CANES, ADNS, SCI Network, CENTRIX, ORT, or FSW.
  • At least 4 years of experience in a DevOps-based environment and familiarity with Agile practices.
  • At least 2 years of experience with scripting languages and automation using PowerShell scripting and XML development.
  • At least 2 years of experience designing, analyzing, and supporting local area networks.
  • Experience with cloud computing environments such as AWS, Microsoft Azure, and/or Flankspeed Edge.
  • Experience with the Microsoft stack, including .NET 4.0/C# and PowerShell.
  • Experience with Linux programming languages.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Must have an active Secret clearance at start and be able to obtain a Top Secret clearance after starting.
