Senior Principal Should Cost Engineer (Remote)

About The Position

The Senior Principal Should Cost Engineer will help design, build, and operationalize a should-cost capability that provides cost transparency to sourcing teams negotiating with suppliers across components, aircraft, defense products, and subsystems. The role leads cost modeling and benchmarking across complex assemblies and parts, using aPriori, internally developed regression models, and models to be developed. The engineer performs should-cost modeling across commodities, including supplier-designed equipment, electronics, composites, and other challenging categories. The work includes translating engineering drawings and models into costed elements such as material, labor, overhead, tooling, and logistics; developing cost rollups and cost-driver logic for negotiations; using historical data to create forward-looking models when software is unavailable; and validating and calibrating models. The role also trains software and model users and contributes to improvements in standard work. Occasional travel with Supply Chain managers may be required, but travel is expected to be minimal.

Requirements

  • Typically, a STEM degree and at least 10 years of relevant experience; or an advanced degree in a related field and at least 7 years of experience; or, without a degree, 14 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience reading and interpreting engineering drawings using Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Costing or design-to-cost experience.
  • Experience with should-cost tools.

Nice To Haves

  • Programming experience in VB, SQL, or Python.
  • Experience in aerospace/defense procurement or engineering.
  • Experience with large datasets or data analytics.
