About The Position

We are investing in translational biology, human genetics and genomics, digital technologies and advanced analytics to address scientific questions to support the discovery and development of the next generation of therapeutics. Biogen has a focus on Neuroscience and is developing medicines for neurodegenerative disorders. The Genomic Biomarker group is in Translational Genome Sciences (TGS) in the Translational Biology (TB) organization of Biogen’ R&D. The group is responsible for integrating human genetic and genomic discoveries into clinical development programs to select the right patients, understand patient heterogeneity and drug response, to increase the probability of success for our portfolio. Partner with scientists in Discovery Research and/or Clinical Development team leaders to identify key questions and priorities that genetic and genomic technologies can address in advance. Review the genetic evidence for target selection and validation of therapeutic hypotheses. Reporting to the Director of the Genomic Biomarkers Group, we are looking for experts in human and/or clinical genetics, who have experience with cutting-edge genomics and analytics, and are passionate about using genetics to transform how we develop drugs.

Requirements

  • Post-graduate experience in human genetics and genomics, diagnostics, or analysis of large data sets.
  • Experience with multiple genetics platforms (GWAS, WES & WGS, Sanger, etc.) as well as other genomic or epigenomic profiling technologies (microarrays, R

Responsibilities

  • Provide quantitative and molecular genetics expertise to develop and implement genetic and genomics work plans to help the clinical teams optimize their trial strategy and achieve the program milestones.
  • Directly contribute to: o Protocol and Informed consent documents to support biospeciment collection o Selection of patients for clinical trials using molecular diagnostics
  • Initiate data generation from clinical trials to support future clinical trial design and research programs
  • Identify opportunities for external collaborations that supplement internal TGS and TB resources and ensure genetic and genomic biomarker research is at the cutting edge
  • Contribute to leadership and strategy of the Translational Genome Science Group including experimental design, planning and foundational projects.
