Senior Principal Optical Design Engineer
About The Position
As a core member of the design team, the candidate will be responsible for optical modeling and parameter optimization, simulating and calculating related optical tolerances as guidelines for other design aspects. This role involves communicating with suppliers and CM/SDE to build components, responding to feedback and DFM (Design for Manufacturability) from them. The candidate should possess an overall view of advanced technologies and proactively develop the sense to design the most suitable technical route for project needs. This position requires coordination with internal teams, including Process, Testing, and Automation, to review and respond to their DFM items, optimize designs, and establish appropriate assembly and test workflows. The candidate should have good experience in making high manufacturability designs to ensure good projected production yield. Responsibilities include supporting failure analysis on components and final products from an optical perspective. Candidates should possess a wide range of technical knowledge, not only within their job function but also in other fields that can be used to solve problems. This role is also responsible for training new optical engineers and conducting peer reviews of optical designs.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree with 7 years of related experience in optical transceiver electrical design, OR Master’s degree with 5 years, OR a PhD with 3 years experience
- Capable of expressing in English with accuracy and efficiency, for both written and oral
- Proficiency with optics ray tracing software such as Zemax
Nice To Haves
- Familiarity with fiber optic transceivers and CPO/NPO modules
Responsibilities
