Senior Principal Industrial Engineer
About The Position
General Dynamics Mission Systems is seeking an Industrial Engineer to establish and lead site-wide continuous improvement efforts at its Marion site. The role systematically identifies and eliminates production constraints to achieve measurable cost savings and improve throughput across manufacturing programs. It combines hands-on analysis—including time studies, motion studies, and value stream mapping—with data-driven methods such as ERP data pulls, process simulation, and agentic AI tools. This is a newly established Industrial Engineering role at the Marion site, offering significant autonomy to define how the discipline supports operations and shape the site's improvement roadmap. The position also provides exposure to senior leadership and opportunities to lead or support projects at other GDMS locations, including the precision optics facility in Cullman, Alabama. The work supports advanced technologies and defense and scientific missions.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing or Industrial Engineering, or a related Science, Engineering, or Mathematics field, and at least 10 years of relevant experience; or a master's degree and at least 8 years of relevant experience.
- Proficiency in lean manufacturing concepts, including theory of constraints, waste reduction, value stream mapping, and 6S.
- Experience gathering and analyzing production data to identify constraints, develop capital or expense justifications with supporting ROIs, and lead root cause corrective action events.
- Working knowledge of 2D/3D modeling software such as Catia or AutoCAD and production process simulation tools such as SIMIO or Delmia.
- Experience supporting new manufacturing work-cell setup, including facility layout optimization, material storage analysis, and visual management systems.
- Must be a U.S. citizen.
- Must be able to obtain a Department of Defense Secret security clearance within a reasonable amount of time after hire.

- Ability to determine theoretical best output of production processes and establish best-standard goals for continuous performance gains.
Responsibilities
