About The Position

Responsible to the assigned supervisor for performing complex engineering work activities and projects requiring the application of engineering knowledge in a safe, effective, efficient and economic accomplishment of assigned objectives. This role involves technical expertise, leadership, planning, problem-solving, communication, decision-making, and business awareness within the context of AEP's mission to put the customer first and deliver safe, reliable, and innovative energy solutions.

Requirements

For Engineer Sr (Grade 8): Typically acquired 4 or more years of related engineering experience along with a Bachelor's degree in engineering in a program accredited by ABET.
For Engineer Sr (Grade 8): 2 years of related engineering experience along with a Master's degree or PhD in engineering from a program accredited by ABET.
For Engineer Prin (Grade 9): Typically acquired 8 or more years of related engineering experience along with a Bachelor's degree in engineering in a program accredited by ABET.
For Engineer Prin (Grade 9): 6 years of related engineering experience along with a Master's or PhD in engineering from a program accredited by ABET.
Individuals with a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering Technology can satisfy the degree requirement if they obtain a certified Professional Engineering (PE) license.
Acceptable alternative for degree requirement: (1) a Bachelor's degree in engineering (non-ABET) plus a Master's degree or PhD in engineering from a university with an ABET accredited Bachelor's program.
Confirmation is required to ensure the PE obtained in Puerto Rico aligns with NCEES standards.

Responsibilities

Perform complex engineering work activities and projects requiring the application of engineering knowledge.
Serve as a leader within the assigned organization, exhibiting advanced knowledge.
Keep abreast of new products, developments, technologies, procedures, and equipment.
Understand and analyze interrelationships between systems and component equipment.
Interpret codes and regulations, and develop standards relevant to the area of assignment.
Provide guidance and exercise judgment and discretion in providing guidance and direction to other Engineers.
Lead, facilitate, and coordinate work activities of others within the work group, team, department, corporate entity, or those external to the company.
Ensure all work activities are performed in accordance with company policies, practices, standards, and rules, and comply with regulations and procedures required by external agencies.
Promote engineering professionalism and standards.
Coordinate and conduct training sessions.
Participate in the development of plans by establishing measurable goals, objectives, and requirements for specific areas of responsibility.
Coordinate the development of input necessary to establish projected cost of all projects.
Utilize scheduling techniques (CPM, PERT, flow charts, etc.) for budget and planning activities.
Identify and initiate appropriate corrective action when objectives are not being met.
Identify, clarify, resolve, and initiate solutions to routine and/or complex problems that sometimes involve analysis of inadequate or conflicting data.
Divide problems into component steps.
Consistently look for and develop opportunities and present new ideas and approaches.
Coordinate the work of other engineers in an efficient and effective manner.
Develop, review, or prepare reports on complex technical subjects clearly, concisely, and effectively.
Lead and facilitate meetings effectively.
