About The Position

Rockwell Collins Inc. is hiring a Senior Principal Engineer, Software Engineering, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The role executes functional strategies and operational plans for quality assessments and improved engineering quality outcomes. It addresses complex, undefined problems across functions, improves processes, and influences organizational practices through collaboration with internal and external stakeholders, including senior leaders and customers. National travel may be required up to once per year. The position develops functional strategies and operational goals aligned with organizational objectives; investigates root causes and develops research-driven solutions to systemic issues; and leads new product assessments, process development, and standards that improve efficiency, quality, and regulatory compliance. The engineer collaborates with cross-functional teams, customers, vendors, and regulators, presents data-driven findings and improvement plans to executive leadership and external stakeholders, and mentors team members. The role is onsite and is part of the Avionics team.

Requirements

A bachelor's degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Electrical and/or Electronics Engineering, or a related field, and at least 10 years of progressive experience as a Software Engineer or in a related role in the Aerospace/Defense industry; alternatively, a master's degree or equivalent in one of these fields and at least 7 years of such experience.
At least 7 years of experience applying aerospace and industry standards including RTCA DO-178B/C, DO-254, DO-330, DO-331, ARP4754, and AS9100 to safety-critical aerospace software and hardware development.
At least 7 years of experience evaluating software engineering lifecycle artifacts, including plans, requirements, design, code, verification, certification evidence, and quality records, for regulatory and customer compliance.
At least 7 years of experience identifying technical and process risks, leading root-cause investigations, driving corrective actions, and collaborating with multidisciplinary engineering teams, customers, and certification authorities.
At least 5 years of experience performing independent software process assurance, lifecycle compliance assessments, audits, and certification readiness reviews for commercial aerospace programs.
Must be authorized to work in the United States without company immigration sponsorship now or in the future.

Responsibilities

Execute functional strategies and operational plans for quality assessments and improvements in engineering quality results.
Solve complex, undefined problems across functions and influence organizational practices across Quality and Engineering.
Develop functional strategies and operational goals aligned with organizational objectives and deliver measurable short- to medium-term impact.
Investigate root causes of complex problems and design research-driven solutions to systemic issues.
Lead new product assessments and the development and execution of processes and standards to improve efficiency, quality, and regulatory compliance.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams, customers, vendors, and regulatory bodies on quality standards, operational improvements, and project objectives.
Present data-driven insights, systemic findings, and improvement plans to executive leadership and external stakeholders.
Mentor team members, support their professional development, share best practices, and promote continuous improvement.
