About The Position

Pratt & Whitney is seeking a Senior Principal Engineer for the Military Engines Airworthiness Office to serve as the primary advocate for airworthiness execution on multiple programs. This role represents an exciting new approach to airworthiness at P&W, as part of a team devoted specifically to the airworthiness discipline, assisting programs with execution of US Government customer deliverables regarding planning and collection of artifacts that demonstrate compliance to agreed Airworthiness criteria. The Senior Principal Airworthiness Engineer will lead Integrated Product Team (IPT), Component Integrated Product Team (CIPT) and System Integrated Product Team (SIPT) planning for Airworthiness, recommend Certification Bases, and ensure alignment between stakeholders in the Airworthiness, V&V, Safety, and Requirements Management processes. Will ensure timely submission of Airworthiness deliverables and clear understanding & communication of risk and mitigations where necessary. A successful applicant should be comfortable advocating for Airworthiness compliance in the face of potential competing program priorities. This role will entail regular coordination with our US Government customers. Primary airworthiness advisor to CIPTs/IPTs for assisting our US Government customers achieve a Military Flight Release (MFR) or Military Type Certificate (MTC) for new programs, Component Improvement Programs, and engineering changes. Author drafts of the Airworthiness Plan and Certification Basis in conjunction with CIPTs, per customer direction. Negotiate resolution of internal conflict regarding airworthiness plans, certification basis, compliance, and risk. Represent the Airworthiness function in IPT/CIPT/SIPT meetings regularly. Participate in implementation of airworthiness elements of model-based engineering systems. Develop and administer Airworthiness processes and standard work tools. Guide and mentor junior members of the Airworthiness Office and IPT/CIPT members in execution of program-specific airworthiness duties.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) degree
  • 10+ years of experience in military Airworthiness and/or civil certification and/or engineering & requirements management; OR an advanced degree with 7+ years of experience in military Airworthiness and/or civil certification and/or engineering.
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required.
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Advance degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Systems Engineering.
  • Experience working with one or more gas turbine engine subsystems and familiarity with their architecture, performance, validation, and analysis.
  • Familiarity with MIL-HDBK-516 and related US government/industry publications, and execution of core airworthiness deliverables.
  • Experience interfacing with US Government customers regarding challenging program deliverables and risk negotiation.
  • Ability to effectively communicate, lead, influence, and coordinate across teams in strategic projects and initiatives.
  • Experience executing the Agile project management concept.
